I have a KKW 4th Degree Black Belt...... What about my ITF Certificate? would they "issue" me a KKW equivilant to my ITF? I took great pride in learning both Taekwon-Do's KKW because I was in Korea and couldnt study ITF eventhough I was teaching it on the helapad at Cp Greaves. But I did go to a school in Seoul on my 2nd tour of duty and decided to learn KKW TKD and did in fact train here in the US KKW style or ITF Style depending on what they had to offer on or off post. My ex wife (Korean) and I opened several Tae Kwon-Do Schools in various duty stations... depending if we were on post of off. We tought ITF on post only at Ft. Knox KY; Since I was only ITF at the time under Master Benko. But after my 2nd tour of duty in Korea... We tought KKW on post ITF off post. My sons trained in both KKW under Master E.S. Moon here in Easley SC and ITF Taekwon-do under their mother and I. They too hold two Certificates.... My oldest son has his 2nd Dan KKW (tested under Master Urbistondo in California) He also has a 2nd Degree ITF with me under GM Hwang and is testing for 3rd this year under Dr Mencia. My youngest son has a 1st Degree KKW and a 2nd Degree ITF... My step son has both 1st degrees in both so he'd be fine. But think of all the people out there in this same situation..... Something KKW/WTF and the ITF need to think about. Besides I havent heard officially that the ITF is infact even murging with KKW. Im a high ranking Black Belt with the ITF Im sure I would have been told.. My 2 cents Manuel Maldonado (a man caught between two lovers) --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Master Mark Seidel" To: Date: Tue, 21 Feb 2006 07:55:11 -0500 Organization: The Midtown Academy Subject: [The_Dojang] RE: Kukkiwon Cert's Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I have made my feelings known on this board about Kukkiwon and their former leadership. Unless you test at the Kukkiwon they are only a repository of Rank from students who test elsewhere. If a Master sign's off on you and sends his paperwork in, you get a Kukkiwon that does not necessarily correlate with their skill or even if they were actually tested. They depend solely on the integrity of the sending Master. I have bore witness to hundreds of kids and adults that paid $600 and passed the test even though they all had different skill levels some not worthy of a 1st Dan yet alone a second third fourth or fifth. I watched a 4th Dan test for 5th who could not perform Tae Baek (3rd Dan form) flat out did not remember it, still was promoted. Show me the skill of the Master's ability to teach and the performance of the tester the certificates are only as good as the skill shown. So unless the tester goes to Korea to test the Kukkiwon certificate is not necessary, keep the money in our country supporting our organizations. Has anyone noticed most National and Olympic competitors are 1st Dan's, they just train they don't bother testing and are promoted automatically when they win 1st Place.
