Force = mass x acceleration (F = Ma) Work equals Force times displacement (W=Fd) Power equals Work divided by Time, which equals force times distance divided by time which equals force times velocity (P = FV) Pressure equals force divided by area. In regards to Hanmudo, we are taught that everything is in relation to the number three, or divisible by three. This is based on the samgeuk principle of "Heaven, man, and Earth". Also there is the model of taegeuk and the eight trigrams (9). In my training this manifests itself in the (1,2,3) rhythm of our techniques, the concept of evade, control, and destroy; every technique having a beginning, continuation, and finish. Most techniques involve three components (evade, block, counter). And then there is the concept of yu won hwa etc.. In addition Dr. Kimm divides the body into nine portions used for defense (3 arm, 3 torso, 3 leg), Target areas are three divisions of the body (1 critical to defend (core), 2 important to defend (outside of the core), 3 first to sacrifice in order to protect the other two (the extremities). We have empty hand, weapon and ki techniques (3). Then there are the nine directions (left, right, front, back = opponents directions), and (LB 45, LF 45, RB 45, RF 45 and down = defenders directions) There are other examples in our style I could cite, but this is what first comes to mind. --__--__-- Message: 7 Date: Mon, 20 Mar 2006 12:18:31 -0800 From: "Ray Terry" To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] US Dominates Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net US Dominates Senior Division at Dutch Open March 19, 2006 With eight total medals, including three gold, the U.S. Senior National Taekwondo Team turned in the best performance of the 50 countries at the 33rd Dutch Open in Eindhoven, Holland.
