I have also read that there was a ban by the Choson Court > under Kojong, but haven't seen any documentation, though. Isn't there a similar claim that the Japanese forbid the practice of martial arts and use of martial weapons in Okinawa? Yet that appears to not be the case. The Ryukyu government/King prohibited that practice well prior to control of the islands by the Japanese, yet the Japanese get the blame for the ban. I have some things working against me such as not that flexible to begin with, age 51, not being as disciplined as I used to be about working about and a town meniscus pad in my right knee requiring extensive surgery. That being said I have been helped a great deal by it. I first bought his book. Then a VHS tape that a student borrowed and never returned on the exercises for strengthening more than the exercises for stretching. I have used his approach on and off for about 2 years. I can't do a split but my knee injury will not allow the box or Chinese split anyway. I am now back to work on the American split. I recently returned to some light weight training to build my legs back up and especially the right knee. I have always been very faithful to what he refers to as his dynamic stretching. That has helped raise the heighth of my kicks, the power is greater and my incidents of strained muscles has dropped way down. I have my students do the dynamic stretches prior to every class and preach the gospel of going home and doing the dynamic stretches twice per day. My students have noticed my side and round house kicks going higher as I have been more diligent practicing at home in the evening in doing his stretching exercises, primarily the passive and the isometric. Lastly he also sells a video/DVD on power high kicks when cold. He does this with his old karate teacher and full contact karate champion Mac Majerskie. That video is very well done and it shows you good exercises, excellent drills and very practical lessons on how to develop not just strong kicks but Powerful and High and Strong kicks with no warm up. I would recommend it highly. This is also sold thru Stadion Press. freddie bishop wrote: Mr. Riggs You said you used the Stretching Scientifically method by Tom Kurz. How long have you been using his methods and what kind of results have you had? Have you checked the High Kicks video that is put out by Stadion?
