Thus, it is natural for people who are considering a particular art to wonder if it is compatible with their own philosophy or religion. Normally it is not considered ethical for an Instructor to try to impose his own views on his students. However, the philosophical aspects of some arts may still be present in the required training to the extent that some potential students would be offended by it. As with so many other aspects of martial arts, it depends on the art and even more heavily on the instructor. So, be sure to watch for this aspect when you visit a school that you are interested in. Have a conversation with the instructor about it, and watch how he/she interacts with his/her students. --------------------------------- How low will we go? Check out Yahoo! Forwarding... Hello! Just a reminder that the pre-registration discount for the upcoming Serak seminar with Pak Victor de Thouars ends Saturday April 22. We are excited to bring back Pak Vic to central New York on April 29 and 30. Starting times are 10 AM both days to 5 PM with an hour lunch break. Pak Vic, Guro Dan Inosanto's Serak instructor, is sure to also cover the art of Soempat during the seminar. Soempat, a more public version of Serak, was developed by Pak Vic's childhood Serak teacher, Pak Tisari Mardjoeki, in response to FMA. It features the use of sticks with a pronounced curve at the ends for greater power and versatility. For more info/registration please contact PG Andrew Astle at aastle@twcny.rr.com or 607-756-7287. Why is it mandatory to learn Japanese when one learns Ninjutsu? Will there come a time when this won't be necessary?? Afterall, most of us are there to learn the skill. Does anyone here think it's absolutely neccesary to learn the language too? As a beginner I find it time consuming. Any feedback is welcomed.
