The problem bigger than watching TV and playing games: Children these days usually eat very unhealthy. Parents sending their kids to school without serving them a proper healthy breakfast first. Lots of sugars, fat, etc. etc. Probably 90% (if not more) of the food you will find in the supermarket has chemicals and all kinds of artificial stuff added to it. The meals they get at schools aren't any better. I was recently on a class trip with my daughter's 7th grade class. A day of hiking in the woods. It was very easy to tell which of the children were used to exercise and which weren't. At lunch, my daughter and I were discussing dinner and she said she was in the mood for mushrooms. I nodded, said I was going to stop at the market for other things, so I'd grab some portabellos to grill and noted a few other things I'd make for dinner. Her friend turned to her. "DUDE! Your mom cooks?! My mom uses all stuff out of boxes!" The idea of all those preservatives and such makes me cringe. But that's what children are being raised on nowadays :( Alida -------Original Message------- From: Klaas Barends Date: 05/29/06 10:02:27 To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Re: ADHD > DD/ADHD is becoming an epidemic, so why is this? "Traditional observance of Memorial day has diminished over the years. Many Americans nowadays have forgotten the meaning and traditions of Memorial Day. At many cemeteries, the graves of the fallen are increasingly ignored, neglected. Most people no longer remember the proper flag etiquette for the day. While there are towns and cities that still hold Memorial Day parades, many have not held a parade in decades. Some people think the day is for honoring any and all dead, and not just those fallen in service to our country." And remember those falling for us today in the war against terror. I'm sure it would not be as extreme, or as popular. I think personally it would be nice (as in cool) for women to fight for real instead of what you see on the street and in the WWE. I'd rather see if women could fight without using teeth and nail, without the bikinis and the mudpits. I don't know about you guys but as a woman it is disconcerting when I see girls not wanting to push themselves to try to go toe to toe with the male fighters. Yes, the male fighters would tend to win, but I"m sure with right training some women could kick some butt. It bugs me that I've received alot of negative responce on other forums about a Women's UFC. I want others opinions. What do you think would be and make a good women version of the UFC? However, perhaps I'm lost in my journey to find a UFC for women. In the fighting world where women will only meet in a pool of jello in slick themselves up with some oil and show off their bodies in the skimpy outfits. Not that anything wrong with watching, but I mean really... Wouldn't you rather see a REAL fight, with real skill instead of just some extreme m sex appeal? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ One week left to travel virtually with MSN Search World Tour --__--__-- Message: 7 Date: Mon, 29 May 2006 12:30:52 -0700 From: The_Dojang To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Philippine TKD Assoc Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Tuesday, May 30, 2006 Taekwondo association to meet PHILIPPINE Taekwondo Association (PTA) regional director Hyoung Joo "Johnny" Kim will meet with all taekwondo gym instructors this weekend to discuss upcoming tournaments. "There are a lot of tournaments being lined up every month. I want all instructors to be there so that we can be informed of what's going on in every gym," he told a group of sportswriters at the Paradise Island Park and Beach Resort -- the venue of the just-concluded 2nd Beach Taekwondo Challenge. He said he would require the instructors to be involved in every taekwondo activity. "What I want is for all instructors to support and help each other. If one instructor has an event, all the rest need to be there to assist and make it successful," he said. Kim's direction to the instructors, however, would be put to the test when the Regional Promotional Test kicks off on Sunday at the Garden Oases Resort and Restaurant. --__--__-- Message: 8 From: "Mark" To: Date: Mon, 29 May 2006 12:34:13 -0700 Subject: [The_Dojang] contracts Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Greetings All, Would any of you school owners be willing to share examples of your student contracts? I'm looking to begin short term contracts in an effort to properly plan and forecast school income. I am taking the leap into full time school owner and instructor duty and would love to hear everyone's take on the contract issue as well. I know that more and more full-time schools use them and that the encouragement today is to sign people up to one contract and later bump them up to a more expensive contract. Is this keeping with the spirit of the arts to in essence be a tad dishonest? I am not saying lying but if you shade the truth and act in one manner to surreptitiously accomplish another goal, then what is it? Don't misunderstand, I am not standing in judgment as I am unsure about these matters for my own school. These Black Belt clubs are another issue, are these completely on the up and up or are they slightly deceptive in the way they are handled? I would enjoy hearing other people's input both pro & con on these matters. This concept of schools in the last 15 years that have become "McDojo's" is very real and concerns me greatly. I gained a student from out of state that came from one of these schools. My judgment came thru observation of the student, statements from the parents, viewing training videos of the owner/senior instructor and then checking out the web site. He was the result of a basic contract that kept getting bumped up into more "specialized" training and eventually the "Black Belt Club". He was a red belt in Tang Soo Do and struggled with the skill and knowledge of an orange belt. I would value other opinions. I realize I have drifted off the subject somewhat but I believe there is a relationship. I say keep doing what you do. The fact of the matter is that we have to keep it real in the martial arts or else it will fall victim to charlatans, phonies, etc. Let me turn you on to some other brothers doing their thing in the martial arts. They are the brothers of wudang. They are some brothers who are serious about the martial arts and one brother Novell G Bell doesn't bite his tongue when it comes to how he feels about the arts and alot of the people who claim to be masters but can't fight in real time. His website is www.blacktaoist.com. Take a look. Jye Chosondo@aol.com wrote: Mr. Nigma: Thank you for taking the time to check out our website.
