They are lessons done with more of a one on one approach. Personal attention is key for private lessons, however, they person should always bring a partner or a parent with them. Never do a private lesson alone with a student, it can be very easy for them to misunderstand a touch as sexual in a sport like Taekwondo. (Or any other martial art.) Even if an alligation is made, your reputation is forever tarnished and can be (Most likely) will be the death of your business. In our school we charge based on Dan Ranking. (Black Belt Degree) 15$ for first Dan25$ for second DanAround 70$ for a 6th dan. (Our school charges about 55$ a month) This is per hour of training. Remember, these lessons are much higher quality then normal class lessons due to the one on one personal attention received by a far for experienced student.  Remember, if you under charge yourself you will be flooded with students the demand will be so great you may be overwhelmed, just remember that as price goes down demand goes up and as price goes up demand goes down. Your service is very elastic and charging accordingly will save you the pain of spending every living moment in your Dojang. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Find out more about Canada’s Real Estate Outlook in Sympatico / MSN’s Spring Lending Features --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2006 13:11:59 -0400 From: aburrese@aol.com To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] GM West in Black Belt Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I'm not sure if anyone posted this yet or not since I'm a bit behind with e-mail. I was looking through the new Black Belt at the book store yesterday (The one with Chuck Norris on the cover) and I saw a picture and thought, "hey, I know him." There was a picture of GM West teaching at one of his big HKD seminars and a short article about him, his teaching, and those events. Congrats! I know a couple years ago I wrote a longer article about the seminar down in Jackson, but BB didn't feel it met their needs at that time. Glad to see GM West in there. I was wondering outside of joint manipulations, are there other significant techniques in your hapkido school? When I do see hapkido techniques in magazines they seem to show the same or slightly different variations of certain joint manipulations. So I was wondering about that. In maybe 15 cities, I took private lessons in a martial art of some kind...5 or 6 being hapkido. An hour lesson with the owner of the school, or head instructor, usually ran from $75 up to $100 (although sometimes as low as $50). I'm sure that the cost would have been a bit less if I was able to "sign up" for 5 to 10 lessons. If you want to make the big bucks, teach Gracie JJ, (not just any old BJJ) which was often 50% higher. Hope this helps. "I liked it because it was a different environment," said 17-year-old Robert Clark of the World Taekwondo Academy in Maple Grove, Minn. "It took me away from my normal routine back home, with all the outside distractions, and let me concentrate solely on Taekwondo. Plus, you get to train with kids from across the country and see different styles, analyze them with the coaches input, and then get better by sparring with them." There were 48 athletes participating in the Athlete Development Camp, and 35 coaches involved in the Level 1 Coaching Seminar. Twenty-five of those coaches also served as camp counselors and presenters at the camp. The athlete camp was under the direction of U.S. National Team Coaches Jean Lopez and Juan Moreno, and High Level Training Center CEO Herb Perez. "It was very refreshing being with the other coaches and working with the athletes," said coach Melany Moras of Amys Martial Arts in Orem, Utah. "The coaching program is well designed. We received a lot of information and practical experience at the same time." The week's program was designed to be multidimensional in nature, with the athlete camp, Level 1 seminar and Coach presenter training taking place simultaneously and interacting with each other. "The camp was very hands-on," said coach Scott Miranti of Big Sky Taekwondo in Great Falls, Mont. "The coaching seminars were really intense and made me feel like I was back in school. It stimulated a lot of thought. The Level 1 seminar was excellent. I would compare it to a Level 3 or 4 seminar in the old system. A lot of outside knowledge was presented that can be applied to a Taekwondo model. It was a very enjoyable week." "Many of the coaching seminars are separate, but here you had a chance to work with the kids and reinforce what you had just learned," added coach Amely Moras of Amys Martial Arts in Orem, Utah. "Everything added up together and the seminar exceeded my expectations." Each day of the camp would begin with early morning conditioning work, followed by a morning Taekwondo session involving athletes and coaches together. In the afternoon, National Coaches Lopez and Moreno would conduct the athlete camp while the coaches attended the Level 1 seminar. The evening saw everyone reconvene with the athletes participating in sparring while the coaches had the opportunity to apply techniques learned that day such as scouting, athlete evaluation and analysis of skills. "I found the camp very useful and learned a lot," said Tasha Pruter, 14, of Pruter's U.S. Martial Arts in Blue Springs, Mo. "The coaches made it fun." "The coaching seminar far exceeded my expectations," Liz Evans of Koryo Martial Arts in Chicago said. "It gave me that much more confidence in my ability to coach. It was a busy schedule but I didn't feel overwhelmed, and the campers were very responsive and inquisitive." Also contributing to the camp experience were two-time Olympic gold medalist Steven Lopez and his strength and conditioning coach Danny Arnold. Lopez spoke to the campers and was on hand throughout the week to offer advice and answer questions. Arnold, who works with a number of high-level Taekwondo athletes and several professional athletes, including National Football Leauge and Major Leaugue Baseball players at the Plex Sports & Rehab facility in Houston, put both athletes and coaches through some grueling morning workouts and also offered advice on nutrition and caring for injuries. "The camp has been great," offered coach Kenny Kuek of Kuek's Martial Arts in Canandaigua, N.Y. "The coaches shared a lot of knowledge and techniques. The most important thing is standardizing a system on how to coach so all the coaches are on the same page. In the long run it will help build up the athletes. USA Taekwondo is going in a very positive direction and everybody who is involved has their heart in the right place." "I'm really impressed with the coaching staff," added Miranti. "Everyone in the organization has done a wonderful job. We are going to elevate Taekwondo in the U.S. due to this standardized process which will lead to more gold medals in the future." Another USAT Athlete Development Camp is being planned for 2006. The dates and location will be made known to all USAT members as soon as it becomes finalized. --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/the_dojang Copyright 1994-2006: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
