"As of July 5, a total of 65 countries have confirmed their participation in the 6th World Junior Taekwondo Championships," said Truong Ngoc De, secretary general of the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation, in a letter to the World Taekwondo Federation. The organizers predicted that about 70 countries are expected to attend the Vietnam event. The 6th WTF World Junior Taekwondo Championships are scheduled to take place from July 26 to 30, 2006 at the Phu Tho Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. On the occasion of the event, the WTF Executive Council meeting and the WTF extraordinary General Assembly will be held on July 24 and 25, respectively, at the Equatorial Hotel in downtown Ho Chi Minh City. High on the agenda for the Executive Council and General Assembly will be the approval of new WTF memberships: Kiribati in the Oceania region and Zambia in Africa. Their approval would increase the total number of WTF membership to 181 nations. Also on the agenda will be the proposal for amendment to the WTF Rules and Regulations, among which is the establishment of the Paralympic Committee within the WTF. The WTF is working toward the inclusion of taekwondo in the official program of the Paralympic Games, as early as the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The General Assembly will also be briefed on the evaluation system on activities of WTF member national associations and regional unions. The Assembly will decide on the successful host sites nd dates for the 7th World Junior Taekwondo Championships in 2008, the 2nd WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in 2007, the 2nd WTF World Cup Team Taekwondo Championships in 2008. The Executive Council is to decide on the successful host site and dates for the 2007 World Taekwondo Qualification Tournament for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The Executive Council members will also be briefed on the report of the ad-hoc committee for the improvement of the international referee management system. The WTF puts its top priority on ensuring fair refereeing and judgment at the Junior Championships. WTF President Chungwon Choue also stressed the importance of fair judgment at taekwondo competitions. WTF staffs in charge of refereeing and competition will bear full responsibilities for the standards of the refereeing and judgment at the Junior Championships. As part of the WTF's efforts to ensure fair judgment, there will be a demonstration of electronic protectors during the Junior Championships. LaJUST of Korea is scheduled to make a 20-minute demonstration during the Junior Championships. LaJUST was the only company that passed the basic technical requirements to be applied to taekwondo competitions. LaJUST also passed the laboratory test recently conducted by the Korea Institute of Sports Science. LaJUST and three other companies --- ATM of Austria, Daedo of Spain and True Score, a U.S.-- Korea joint venture --- participated in the WTF-organized demonstration of electronic protectors on March 25, 2006. The ad-hoc Committee on Electronic Protectors of the WTF announced the evaluation results of the electronic protector demonstration on March 28, 2006. --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Sat, 8 Jul 2006 19:04:02 -0700 From: The_Dojang To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Two of Three Pan Am Fight-Offs Decided in Overtime Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Two of Three Pan Am Fight-Offs Decided in Overtime It took an extra session to determine the winners in two out of three Pan Am Games Qualifier Fight-Offs Wednesday evening at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. In the female 49-57kg Olympic weight division, Diana Lopez (Sugar Land, Texas) defeated Eleni Koutsilianos (Astoria, N.Y.) in overtime. Lopez twice took a 3-2 lead in the match only to have a point deducted both times for stepping out of bounds. Tied at 2-2, the fight headed into sudden death where Lopez scored the decisive point with 13 seconds left. The women's 57-67kg division fight-off between Simona Hradil (Winnetka, Calif.) and Nia Abdallah (Houston, Texas) also needed a sudden death period to determine a winner. Scoreless after two rounds, each fighter scored a point in the third period to force sudden death. In the extra session, Hradil registered the winning point with only eight seconds remaining. The men's over 80kg division fight-off saw Stephen Lambdin (Colleyville, Texas) jump out to a 2-0 lead over Antony Graf (Miami, Fla.) after one round. But Graf responded with nine unanswered points to win by the seven-point gap rule, 9-2. Lopez and Hradil will join Simone DeVito (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) in the female under 49kg division, and Lauren Cahoon (Jacksonville, Fla.) in the female over 67kg division on the U.S. team that will compete at the Pan Am Games Qualification Tournament in Cali, Colombia, Sept. 29 – Oct. 1. Graf qualifies for the men's team along with Tim Thackrey (Tarzana, Calif.) in the male under 58kg division, 2005 World Champion Mark Lopez (Sugar Land, Texas) in the male 58-68kg division, and two-time Olympic champion and three-time world champion Steven Lopez (Sugar Land, Texas) in the male 68-80kg division. On Thursday, the 26th Annual Junior Olympic Taekwondo Championships will take center stage at the Georgia Dome. The event will run through Sunday and is staged by USA Taekwondo, the National Governing Body for the sport of Taekwondo in the United States, in conjunction with the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Atlanta Sports Council. Over 3,000 athletes, ranging in age from 6-17, are expected to compete. The event is part of the month-long celebration honoring the 10th anniversary of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games. The Junior Olympics serve as a springboard to the Olympic Games. The event features Olympic-type sparring competition in both the Elite Open Division and the World Class Division, as well as competition in forms. On Friday, the 16 black belt gold medalists in the 14-17 year old World Class Divisions will be named to the 2006 Junior National Team that will compete at the 6th World Junior Taekwondo Championships in Vietnam, July 26-30. --__--__-- Message: 3 From: Ray To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net (The_Dojang) Date: Sat, 8 Jul 2006 19:12:18 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [The_Dojang] need v13.n284.txt Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Hi all, Would someone please send version v13.n284.txt of the_dojang digest back to me so that I can add it to the list archives?
