Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Here are some of the sales and marketing techniques I see being employed after viewing four of these videos: 1. Promote Oom Yung Doe as a poor health remedy. In the clips I watched there was at least one testimonial, from a student, who had severe health problems that were improved with Oom Yung Doe. 2. The bags held in students hands were comprised of herbs that removed toxins from the skin. 3. All ages, sexes..... those with physical problems could participate in Oom Yung Doe. 4. Various news organizations are willing to promote Oom Yung Doe because of its perceived health benefits. 5. There are self defense aspects to Oom Yung Doe. blah... blah...blah These videos show that Oom Yung Doe has it marketing programs fully evolved. Now, has anyone on this list practiced Oom Yung Doe and can provide a student's perspective. I think there is a book out describing the cult aspects, from a former insider's pov. Check Amazon or BN or even Google. The last few days hit me on all three levels of martial arts. 1 - As a martial art instructor - I trained with the Judo legend Mike Swain doing both Level 1 & 2 courses. He is an excellent instructor and his assistant was also a world champion. The Level 2 course only had four people in it so it was almost like private instruction. This alone was worth the trip. While in the seminar, Gene LeBell came in and asked if anyone wanted to be choked out. Some young man volunteered and was doing the "twitch" in a matter of seconds. There's a reason I'm suspicious of things that need volunteers.... LOL! 2 - As a martial art school owner - Some really good business ideas. For the seminars I went to, there seems to be a push for simply offering a quality service for a quality price. In every seminar I attended, there was mention of not using unethical tactics. It was refreshing and I'm glad to see it. Yes, we are professionals and need to be paid as such but not at the risk of competing with the oldest profession. I also got some good ideas for class drills and the young man was very enthusiastic. So I walked away with more class ideas and some good business principles. Definitely got my $249 worth (that was the early bird entry fee). 3 - As a martial arts enthusiast - What can I say? WOW! I got to meet Chuck Norris, Gene LeBell, Mike Swain, Bill "Superfoot" Wallace, Frank Shamrock, Bas Rutten, the Machado brothers, Ernie Reyes Sr, Dana White (UFC), and others that I'm afraid I forgot. UFC61 left a lot to be desired - no spoilers...just disappointed. The Thursday Night Awards banquet was nice - $100 a plate is pretty rich and I don't feel I got my "money's worth" on that part. But there was more to it than that but it's rather personal so I'll let it alone. The Friday Night Award ceremony with Chuck Norris being recognized was a lot of fun and very entertaining. The Judo demo by Swain students and Grand Master Ernie Reyes was fantastic. It was included in the $249 fee. Not going to kid anyone here, total trip was close to $2900 by the time it was all said and done. Still, worth every penny. Last comment, this is a must for professional martial artists who want to give better service to their students.
