They break blocks and display turns and jumping kicks. These are typical scenes witnessed at taekwondo championships at home and abroad. But when an annual international taekwondo event was held in North Jeolla Province last month, the organizing committee allowed competitors to wear non-white robes by relaxing some rules. It also added demonstrations by grandmothers, laser shows, fireworks, networking opportunities and tours. "We included various entertainment programs to provide fun to participants," chief organizer Oscar Oh said in a recent interview with The Korea Herald. "Korea is the sovereign country of taekwondo. So we should offer good services and exclude politics and commercialism," said Oh, who is also chairman of Chung Cheong University in North Chungcheong Province. His college has hosted the World Taekwondo Festival and Korea Classic Open. The annual festival, which was held this time in Jeonju from June 26 to 30, drew about 1,000 practitioners, fans and officials from 40 countries. Chairman Oh said his college launched the festival in 1998 as part of its drive for globalization. It is the only taekwondo festival with an open championship to be hosted by a university in Korea. Last year, the festival was held in Taiwan, for the first time in overseas. The committee said it plans to hold next year's festival in Malaysia. "We aim at making the nation a 'melting point' of taekwondo lovers in the world, transcending religions, races and nations," Oh said. "The festival has so far been successful because of its uniqueness. He said: "This nonpolitical and noncommercial festival under the slogan of 'We are One Thru Taekwondo' is a genuine sports event where taekwondo lovers of the whole world become one family."" The chairman revealed his plan to develop the taekwondo festival, saying that he will introduce "taekwondo aerobics" and other exciting programs to help more world youth enjoy the Korean martial art. Unlike other Olympic sports, taekwondo has a tradition calling for practitioners to respect their higher-level masters, their parents and the elderly, while underscoring the importance of family. "On the basis of such a strong point, we should unite taekwondo lovers in the world into one international community," Oh said. --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Don Ross" To: "dojang_digest" Date: Mon, 17 Jul 2006 10:23:47 -0400 Subject: [The_Dojang] UFC and pressure points Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Mr. Stoval's tongue-in-cheek comment re 'Gall Bladder No. 7' and 'Don't touch my gall bladder' got me to thinking: Since my gall bladder has been laproscopically removed, would a strike to my 'gall bladder No. 7' type pressure point strike 'work' on me? Just as a strike to someone with a heart problem may be more dangerous to the heart meridian. Rick Clark "Arguments are extremely vulgar, for everyone in good society holds exactly the same opinion." They supply the official WTF Kukkiwon 2006 text book$59.00 and the higher level forms $69.00 I am really impressed with their service and kindness to me and if you email or set up a wholesale account deal ask for Jin and tell them Master Dan sent you they have really treated me good and remember a little broken English but works just fine. You do get what you pay for there is no comparison between the Vision trade mark and Adidas or Macho but depending on your needs they kick ass eithier way I send them smoked fish and other things from Alaska in appreciation I recommend you say Master Dan from Alaska sent you. We all have a love for our Kwan but WTF rules and if you are going to be judged based on there rules you need to conform to that at least for competition. The textbook and DVD is the final word until they change their position and to this date that has all been rumor. That's one side and the other is the street and they and nobody I know publicly will state this or that is what the forms really mean even my GM when I was trying to do my master's thesis to would narrow down who wrote the forms and what it comes down to is according to him no one it was done by committee. I have never met a single Korean that could offer what the actual movements meant and I had to go outside the family to learn. I herd some young boys talk about no hidden meanings go ahead think that but I am telling you it works and its great for me to be able to offer that to my students who deserve to learn. Martial arts had never had anything to do with wash board abs and big muscles even in full contact better training and knowledge always wins. Some day I hope to have a bunch of you visit me here and there won't be any seminar fees but what I can promise is good king crab, gold from the beach and a visit to remote villages that still have people that are descendants of warriors that kill and eat traditional food the same as 10,000 years ago.
