The Board's sanction was the second in two days, reaffirming the WTF's strong commitment to fair judgment and refereeing, as well as orderly competition site culture. Mr. Min Hyung-keun, the head of the Canadian delegation for the championships, received a six-month suspension from all WTF-promoted or sanctioned championships as he was found "responsible for pushing an international referee in the Referees' Section." A day earlier, the Board announced its official sanctions of four international referees related to a July 27 protest from the Spanish team. The four sanctioned international referees were Myeung Gon Moon of Hong Kong, Sang Soon Lee of Spain, Jose Molero Lopez of Spain and N. Da Christophe Ediemou of Cotedvoire. Under the WTF Rules and Regulations, the Competition Supervisory Board shall make corrections of referees' or judges' misjudgments in accordance to the board members' decisions on protests, and take disciplinary action against officials who make such misjudgments or engage in any illegal behavior. To ensure fairer judgment and refereeing at taekwondo competitions, the WTF plans to introduce an electronic protector system at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games at the earliest. --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Sun, 30 Jul 2006 07:09:40 -0700 From: The_Dojang To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] S Korea shine at WTF Junior champs Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net S Korea shine at WTF Junior champs HA NOI — After stealing the spotlight on the opening day by winning two gold medals, Vietnamese players did not gain any more successes on the second day of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) Junior Championships. With the four Vietnamese competitors failing to win medals on Thursday in HCM City, it was South Korea's turn to shine in the golden spotlight. South Korean competitors, from the home of taekwondo, on Thursday took two golds and a silver after failing to clinch any successes during the opener. Vietnamese competitor Nguyen Sy Tien kicked off the second day of competition for the host team at Phu Tho Gymnasium, taking on Soravit Lanhanimit of Thailand in the men's fly weight under-48kg. Tien lost in four rounds, managing to win only a set in a preliminary match. Ly Thi Kim Hue also fell later on Thursday, losing in three straight rounds to Sharlotte Craig of America in the women's fly weight under-44kg in the preliminary stage. Nguyen Trong Nghia did better when he overcame Japanese Jun Fujita in the preliminary. But the local competitor stumbled in the first stage when he lost to Croatian Mirko Madzar during sudden death play in extra time. All of the home crowd's hopes were on Vu Thi Hau, who had an easy win over Indian Priti Kumri to qualify for the main round where she applied the same defence-attack tactics to overwhelmingly beat a German rival 4-1. But Hau was stopped in the quarter-finals by a strong opponent from South Korea, Lee Ji-min, who won 4-3 and continued to take the women's under-42kg title. Thai players continued their good run by taking a gold and a silver on Thursday, increasing their total golds to two, topping the table with four silvers and a bronze. South Korea are second in the medal tally with two golds and a silver, above hosts Viet Nam who have also won two golds and a bronze. The last gold of the day went to Kazakhstan. The sixth annual five-day tournament, with competition invigourated by the WTF's new rules that encourage fiercer matches, features more than 1,000 competitors from 75 countries and territories. — VNS --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Sun, 30 Jul 2006 07:11:27 -0700 From: The_Dojang To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] 4 International Referees Sanctioned at Juniors Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net 4 International Referees Sanctioned at World Junior Taekwondo Championships HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam -- In a strong show of its determination to fair judging and refereeing at taekwondo competitions, the Competition Supervisory Board of the World Taekwondo Federation has sanctioned four international referees participating in the 6th WTF World Junior Taekwondo Championships here. After receiving a protest from the Spanish team on the second day of the championships on July 27, the Competition Supervisory Board conducted a thorough investigation into the charges and announced four international referees guilty on July 28. In the WTF's 33-year history, it could mark the single, stiffest official sanctions on international referees, reaffirming the WTF's strong determination to fair judging and refereeing at taekwondo competitions. The four international referees found guilty were Myeung Gon Moon of Hong Kong, Sang Soon Lee of Spain, Jose Molero Lopez of Spain and N. Da Christophe Ediemou of Cotedvoire. Mr. Moon was immediately suspended from the ongoing 6th WTF World Junior Taekwondo Championships and received a two-year suspension from all WTF-promoted or sanctioned- World or Continental championships. The Board announced that Moon was sanctioned as he "who upon receiving the decision of superiority sheets from the judges, declared the Hong contestant as the winner, despite the fact that three sheets favored Chung while only two sheets favored Hong; a decision that resulted in a protest, which the Competition Supervisory Board had to reverse." In a related case, Mr. Sang Soon Lee received a unanimous suspension and non-invitation to officiate at one WTF-promoted championship for his lack of professionalism and undesirable comments to other international referees in the Referees' Section. The Board announced, "According to several eye-witness accounts, the referee (Mr. Lee) had conversations with the president and delegation of the Spanish team in an animated and excited manner that is unprofessional for an international referee." N. Da Christophe Ediemou received a strong warning from the Board as he, who upon receiving the decision of superiority sheets of the referee and judges, did not interfere when the wrong contestant was declared the winner. A strong warning was also given to Jose Molero Lopez for "making undesirable comments and acting in an animated and excited manner to the international referees in the Referees' Section, and to the public. Besides the sanctions, the WTF plans to announce a list of several "good international referees" attending the 6th World Junior Taekwondo Championships and award them during the closing ceremony on July 31. --__--__-- Message: 4 Date: Sun, 30 Jul 2006 07:12:53 -0700 From: The_Dojang To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Korea Clinches Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Korea Clinches Both Male, Female Team Titles at World Junior Taekwondo Championships HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam -- Korea won both the male and female team titles at the 6th WTF World Junior Taekwondo Championships, which wrapped up its five-day run here on July 30, 2006. Having been to all three, it was quite nice to see attendance growing with each year, visiting with old friends and meeting new ones. Friday night was a three hour advanced class in Hapkido with a highlight of Friday night being Mrs. Hilland’s promotion to 4th dan Hapkido and Sah Buhm Nim. Saturday was an 8-9 hour seminar on a variety of topics with Jere teaching Hapkido and Professor Vern Borgen (Judo), Master Tim Cruff (Jujitsu/Judo) and Master Jim Grimestad (Taekwondo) all giving separate sessions in their respective arts. It was obvious that the Hilland’s have a good relationship with their Fargo neighbors and it was refreshing to see folks from different styles out training with each other and learning new material. All in all a good time and I’m looking forward to next year.
