Their performance gave the U.S. team four bronze medals in the tournament, signaling the best showing by a U.S. contingent since the 2000 Junior World Championships when the American squad won one gold medal and four bronze medals. Other U.S. medal winners in Vietnam were male featherweight Bernard Posey (Greensboro, N.C.), 16, who won a bronze medal on Wednesday, and female flyweight Charlotte Craig (Murrieta, Calif.), 15, who took bronze on Thursday. On Sunday, Eubanks posted wins over Vietnam (6-1) and Greece in sudden death ((-1)-(-1), 1-0) to reach the semifinals of the female heavyweight division where she lost a 6-3 decision to eventual gold medalist An Sae Bom of Korea. Germany's Ramona Wrobel won the silver and France's Aurore Larcher claimed the other bronze medal. Stanger advanced to the male heavyweight semifinals with 3-1 victories over both Croatia and Vietnam, but then dropped a sudden death decision to Romain Carriere of France after both fighters ended regulation tied 2-2. Carriere lost the title match to Korea's Kim Dong-Yong, while Iran's Alireza Yousefi Falakdehi won the other bronze. Korea swept the men's, women's and team titles with 14 total medals. In other action on Sunday, male light heavyweight Daniel Cosmillo (Palm Bay, Fla.), 17, faced a tough first-round match with Korea, but won in sudden death after both fighters were tied 6-6 at the end of round three. Cosmillo dropped his second-round match against eventual gold medalist Tian Xueguang of China, 8-5. Russia's Gamzat Abumuslimov won the silver and France's Rodolphe Payet and Iran's Payam Ghobadi Oghaz claimed the bronze medals. In female light heavyweight action, Melissa Blasco (Tuckerton, N.J.), 16, lost her opening match against Chinese Taipei, 11-4. Yu Eun-Sim of Korea took the gold with a 7-3 win over Italy's Federica Perugini. Tran Thi Ngoc Tram of Vietnam and Courtney Condie of Canada won bronze. Saturday's action saw female light middleweight Jade Lopez (Union City, Calif.), 15, post victories over Germany (9-2) and Kazakhstan (3-0) before losing a 9-7 decision to eventual bronze medalist Liu Jing of China. Vietnam's Bui Bich Ngoc won the gold with a 2-1 decision over Mexico's Paulet Lozano. Turkey's Burcu Altun claimed the other bronze medal. Male light middleweight Daren Tubbs (Plano, Texas), 16, opened with a 2-0 win over Ukraine, but then dropped a sudden death decision to China's Sun Maojie. Maojie advanced to the title match but lost 5-2 to Iran's Mohammad Rafiei Shahrbabaki. Great Britain's Aaron Cook and Korea's Kwon Hyeok Jin were the bronze medalists. Christina Johnson (Galloway, N.J.), 16, posted a 6-2 win over France in female middleweight action on Saturday, but her run ended with a 2-1 loss to eventual bronze medalist Valentina Biryukova of Russia. Guo Wunfei of China won the gold with a 4-1 victory over Germany's Carolin Hausotte, while Elaine Alora of the Philippines took the other bronze. Male middleweight Cody Thongtavee (Alexandria, Va.), 15, lost his opening-round match to Poland, 8-7. Korea's Jeung Yong Jin won the middleweight title with a 7-3 win over Turkey's Baris Bozkurt. Bronze medals were claimed by China's Li Sheng and Greece's Nikolaos Tzellos. --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Joseph Cheavens" To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: RE: [The_Dojang] Happy birthday GM West Date: Tue, 01 Aug 2006 08:44:55 -0500 Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Happy Birthday! I think they may have a good school. I think you are correct about the MT. He has been working on Leg Kicks, as well as checking them. He has been working on his clinch and knees inside the clinch. I had the same thoughts as you described in you post. Because I have some kickboxing experiance I have been working with him, on what he may see from a trained kickboxer as well. Pawing Jabs followed by a straight right-- straight down the pipe. Front pushing kicks, and roundhouse kicks. His oponent has only been training 8 months so he will most likley use basic attacks (With any result). We are covering the MT style kicking to the thigh, knee and hip area, the Clinch, and knees from the clich as well as throws and takedowns from the clinch. I know the other fighter trains in BJJ, but My fighter is good on the ground. During his Jujitsu training there are 12 guys he rolls with 2 are about 125 lbs one of which one has 4 years of greco roman wrestling experiance. 2 are 5'10" and 180 lbs, and the other 8 are 205 lbs or bigger. Every class is 100% I am a Jujitsu Black Belt as well and I roll with him every class, becasue he has to fight from his back a lot with the 205 and bigger guys, I take the bottom and work defense. I let him be aggressive from the top and work on finishing. While in Cali. next week we are going to be rolling at the Gracie Academy. With Henner Gracie. I am going to share this information with him, and work on a finial game plan. I think right now our strength is on the ground, so we are focused on getting the other guy on his back. Since Tang Soo Do, like Tae Kwon Do, originated from Japanese Karate, it would seem that the majority of jang bong forms in TSD/TKD originated as Japanese/Okinawan bo kata. Since the different kwan were founded by Koreans that studied either Shotokan, Shito-ryu or Shudokan, or some combination thereof (with Shotakan being the most common influence) I would look to the forms practiced by those styles to see what kind of bo kata they have. It is also possible that your kwan or even one of the teachers in your kwan incorporated staff forms from the Muye Dobo Tongji, which is the classical Korean military arts textbook written in the late Choson Period. Many of the Hapkido spin-off KMA, like Kuksulwon and Hwarangdo, have used this textbook to "recreate" "traditional" KMA. Just my opinion, but the few things I have seen from Master Hee Il Cho, have not impressed me. Don't get me wrong, the guy has phenomenal ability and is a great martial artist but he has issues marketing media materials. I own several of his books and videos. He will demonstrate a form in slow motion, walking through and explaining things as he goes. Then he will do the same form full speed and makes several mistakes, and not just little mistakes. The books and not much better. The book and the video of him doing the same form are different. If this series is any good, I would probably get them myself to add to my library. Please take into consideration when the materials were produced as well. My resources of him are VERY old and it is quite possible that he used a different media producer for this video series. Let me know what you find out. In devotion to the art, Mike Donahoo __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
