From middle school to college-age students, Utah is well represented in the Gumdo world. Earlier this summer, five local students traveled to Pyeongchang, South Korea, to compete in the Gumdo World Championships. Unlike traditional martial arts like Karate or Tae Kwon Do, Gumdo's entire focus is the sword. From cutting bamboo to agility drills measuring speed and grace, the art form is growing in popularity in studios along the Wasatch Front. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? MRSA will colonize anyone who has been affected and can never be completely eradicated, it can reside even on the surface of your skin, so unless you've had a complete body culture you are wrong in assuming that all the microbes are gone. It can, and will remerge when it gets a suitable opportunity. I no longer have MRSA. I have been tested on multiple occasions and am not colonized. These conditions are bacterial and ARE cured. You need to be very careful about making assumptions like this. And we are not talking semantics, they mean VERY different things. I sincerely hope this helps. Remember you are not talking about a virus which cannot be cured you are talking about a bacteria, which is a living organism and can be killed. Viruses on the other hand are not truly living things in the context that we normally think of, although they are living. I am really hot on this topic because it can walk into your dojang at any time. Dave, if you happen to be ill or have any kind of wound where MRSA contacts you, guess what... you may now be the proud owner of an infection. You are cured when you have completed the treatment regimen and have three successful sequential clear cultures. f. _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list, 2,100 members The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net Copyright 1994-2006: Ray Terry and Martial Arts Resource Standard disclaimers apply http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang --__--__-- Message: 3 From: "John Chambers" To: Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] Re: Moo Duk Kwan-1964 Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2006 08:36:02 -0400 Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Thanks for the reply Steven. The event, which takes place at the 5,000-seat Hua Mark Indoor Stadium, features individual and team competitions. The individual competition is scheduled to continue until Sept. 17, with the team event on Sept. 18. Based on the individual competition results, eight countries will field their respective athletes in the male and female divisions for the team event. "Now, we are introducing an event that combines individual brilliance and team effort in the sport of taekwondo. It will be interesting to see how our athletes and global taekwondo family respond to this new system," said WTF President Chungwon Choue during the opening ceremony of the 2006 Bangkok World Cup. Dr. Choue said, "The inaugural World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships are a momentous step in the global renaissance of taekwondo." "Other than the Olympic discipline of kyorugi, we have introduced another taekwondo discipline, poomsae, at the 1st WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships held in Seoul on Sept. 4-6." He continued to say, "Taking this opportunity, I would like to inform everyone that only the best referees of the WTF will be selected to officiate at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games." "It will be a great incentive for our referees to do their utmost to ensure top-class officiating standards at the World Cup Team Championships." For Thailand, the year 2006 is a special year as this year marks the 60th anniversary of the accession to the throne of His Majesty, King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand. During the opening ceremony, WTF President Choue presented a replica of ancient Korean crown to Thai Deputy Prime Minister Suwat Liptapanlop, which was then handed over to Mr. Pimol Srivikorn, chairman of the Organizing Committee of the championships. The crown from the Silla Dynasty of Korea is to be presented to His Majesty King Bhumibol. Dr. Choue presented an honorary Dan certificate to the deputy prime minister. The opening ceremony featured cultural performances from four regions of Thailand, followed by a puppet theater show to mark the 60th anniversary of the King's accession to the throne. There was also a Korean taekwondo demonstration under the sponsorship of Samsung at the end of the opening ceremony. Samsung, the global partner of the WTF, sponsored this inaugural World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships. --__--__-- Message: 6 From: "tim walker" To: Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2006 10:30:19 -0400 Subject: [The_Dojang] Re: Dave and pseudo sicence Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net A couple of comments: 1) One man's pseudoscience is another man's religion. 2) One of the last things I want to hear in ANY locker room is, "Hey, does this look infected?" Also was a storage closet for cleaning supplies. The wish that we have had was an opportunity to build a massage/first aid room but space was lacking. Notably, students assisted in building, painting and decorating all of these additions to the dojung. It has given a much stronger sense of family to what was already a MA family prior to the move. More of an 'our school' than a 'Master's school' situation. The second wish, we need new practice mats, but thats not a new dojung situation. Thats just me thinking happy thoughts. ~Anj --__--__-- Message: 10 From: Ray Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] Master Conde To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2006 11:00:43 -0700 (PDT) Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net > I did some research on the names you mentioned. Are there perhaps gaps left in the numbering sequence? I only ask as the above indicates that an average of over 1,000 official SBD MDK first dans per year were being produced. That is perhaps a low yearly average these days, but this was back in the early to mid-1960s. Just curious... Pricha Thortrakul, a Thailand Taekwondo Association adviser, said organisers had underestimated the tense rivalry and made the mistake of letting them stay in the same hotel. "We let them choose their own hotel but they picked the same one, so we've solved the problem by moving them to different floors to avoid any tension," Pricha told Reuters. "Taiwan said they don't like China. We didn't realise things were like this." China considers the self-governed island to be its territory and has threatened military action if it formalises its de facto independence. The issue has previously impacted on the sporting arena, with China often reluctant to send teams to compete in events in Taiwan. --__--__-- Message: 13 Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2006 19:01:56 -0700 From: The_Dojang To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Opening day Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Thailand, Iran, Korea, Norway Share One Gold on Opening Day of World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships in Bangkok BANGKOK, Thailand - Bangkok, Iran, Korea and Norway shared one gold apiece on the opening day of the 2006 Bangkok World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships on Sept. 14, 2006, with brilliant Rapatkorn Prasopsuk writing a new chapter of Thai taekwondo to become the first Thai who captured the gold medal in the WTF World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships. The championships kicked off at the Hua Mark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, with more than 2,500 spectators watching the opening ceremony inside the competing venue. After the ceremony, the host nation impressed the participating exponents and all visitors with a splendid dance which portrayed the beauty of Thai cultures. A taekwondo demonstration by Korean exponents also thrilled the spectators with their awesome form. One of the formidable giants to topple in these championships is Thailand's Rapatkorn, a 19-year-old from Nakhon Pathom province, who has a remarkable run in her career. She stunned the Athens Olympic gold medalist Luo Wai from China to clinch the women's heavyweight gold in the Asian Championships last April. She also took a bronze medal at the last year's World University Taekwondo Championships in Valencia, Spain apart from repeating the feat in the SEA Games in the Philippines. Against the in-form Jang Jung Yoon from Korea, the Thai exponent came all-out in the opening round, while the visitor waited patiently for a golden opportunity to fight back. After trailing 0-2 in the second round, the Korean capped an impressive form to foil all Rapatkorn's attacking attempts. At the end of three rounds, the score was tied at 2-2 and a sudden death would determine the eventual winner. As the Korean fans cheered on their exponent lustily, the Thai exponent silenced them with a powerful kick at the abdomen of the tough opponent to win the women's heavyweight crown. Rapatkorn rushed to hug her coach Choi Young Suek, wrapped up herself with a Thai national flag before running around inside the 5,000-seater Hua Mark Indoor Stadium, the battle ground she had won twice - the Asian Championships in April and the Thursday World Cup. Rapatkorn was the first Thai to win the gold medal in these championships. Some four years ago, Voravimol Puangpee claimed the lone bronze medal for the country in the tournament in Japan. "Glad to win the first gold for the country. Before competing with the Korean, I was very excited. I became more excited after I learned that the score was 2-2 and a sudden death would decide the winner. Coach Choi consoled me, saying that I must go for the best . This is Thailand. I can't lose to rivals on home soil. I followed his advice and that's what counts. The credit of this success goes to my coach. Without him, I will never have my today's success," Rapatkorn said. Meanwhile, Norway's Nina Solheim captured the championships' first gold after surviving a sturdy challenge from Sun Young Jung to narrowly beat the Korean opponent 2-1. It was a bitter loss for Sun, who won the bronze medal at both the last year's World Championships in Spain and the World University Games in Izmir. Before going up against Solheim, Sun in the first round overpowered the much taller Chinese Luo Wei, gold medalist at the Athens Olympics who claimed a consolation silver medal at the recent Asian meet after a loss to Thailand's Rapatkorn in the final clash. Sun also aimed high to win the women's middleweight gold for her motherland. Her dream was, however, shattered into pieces as she went down the thrilling encounter to Solheim. Greek Niki Athanasopoulou and Spaniard Aitziber Los Arcos shared the bronze medal. Korean Bae Yun Nam made amends for the loss of team-mate Sun. The gold winner at the last year's World University Games and the Asian meet proved a cut above Greek Roidis Stergios, beating him 2-1 to claim the men's heavyweight title. German Volker Wodzich and France's Michael Borot took home the consolation bronze medal. In the men's middleweight event, spirited Italian Mauro Sarmiento, restricted by the right-knee injury caused during a tough battle against France's John Trouillet in the semi-finals earlier, poured everything to match the might of Iranian Mehdi Bibak Asi. However, the experienced Sarmiento, gold winner at the last year's World University Taekwondo Championships in Valencia and silver medalist at the World University Games in Izmir, could not go that far. He lost a one-sided 3-0 match to the Iranian. However, before leaving the arena, Sarmiento received a great applause from the audience for his gutsy display. The bronze medal went to Netherlander Patrick Stevens and French Trouillet. Four more gold medals are up for grabs on Sept. 15. They consist of lightweight and welterweight in both men's and women's categories. --__--__-- Message: 14 Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2006 19:02:57 -0700 From: The_Dojang To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Day 2 Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Competition Results of the 1st WTF World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships – On Day 2 (Sept. 15, 2006) - Female Lightweight (Under 63kg) Gold : Korea - Eun-kyung Jun (6-1) Silver : Turkey - Azize Tanrikulu Bronze : Chinese Taipie - Li Wen Su Sweden - Lie Kylborn - Male Welterweight (under 78kg) Gold : Korea - Chang-ha Jang (11-6) Silver : France - Bata Augustin Bronze : Spain - Rosendo Alonso Thailand - Darn Srichan - Female Welterweight (Under 67kg) Gold : Australia - Tina Morgan (2-1) Silver : Turkey - Sibel Guler Bronze : Korea - Hye-mi Kim Sweden - Carolin Persson - Male Lightweight (Under 72kg) Gold : Thailand - Patiwat Thongsalap (sudden death 1-0) Silver : Iran - Alireza Nasr Azadani Bronze : Korea - Se-yong jang China - Li Teng Fei --__--__-- Message: 15 Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2006 19:54:13 -0700 (PDT) From: Marcus Jones To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Grandmaster Won Sun Jung Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Hello everyone, my name is Marcus I am a student of Grandmaster Won Sun Jung in Rockford, Illinois he is a ninth degree black belt in tae kwon do and a tenth degree in hapkido I believe.
