I come from an org.(WKSA) that doesn't have this at our competitions, but we were told, during a BB meeting, that the Org. is going to start doing this, certifying judges. So I guess my questions are 1) What are the requirements to become a certified judge 2)Is there a test you have to pass? either physical or written knowledge or both? 3)Does your org. pay the judges, or compensate them in any way? 4)Is it a one time thing, or do you have to update your certification 5) Do you like the way your org. does judge certification?would you change anything? Do you like having cert. judges? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! There is an affiliation in Texas, Master Gia Cau Pham. I think that he has retired form active teaching but there may be some of his students kicking around, He was located just north of Houston in Spring Texas - a bit far for daily training - but I will see if I can get an active phone number for you. This makes the first day for the annual Chungju World Martial Arts Festival, one of the biggest of its kind in the world. Over 400 martial artists will converge in this rustic tourist town in the center of South Korea to show off their skills and exchange ideas from their counterparts from other part of the world. For the martial arts enthusiast, this will be a visual treat as the entire week will feature martial arts demonstrations featuring every martial art the organizers can get their hands on. These include but are not limited to, Capoeira from Brazil, Shaolin Kung Fu (performed by real monks), Japanese Kenjutsu, Venezuelan stick fighting, and many more. Established nine years ago, the Chung-ju World Martial Arts Fes-tival hoped to be a premier venue for the preservation of the various Traditional Martial Arts Heritages of all countries across the globe. This is done through the celebration of the festival annually, as well as the establishment of the World Martial Arts Museum where the various weaponry, training tools, and uniforms of the various arts are displayed for posterity. Representing the Philippines for the third time, to this prestigious gathering is the Davao City-based Mandirigmang Kaliradman (MK). Established in 1998 by Master Instructor Manolo "Nols" Luis del Rosario in Davao City, Philippines, Mandirigmang Kaliradman aims to instill National Pride and Cultural Identity among Filipinos through the preservation and propagation of traditional Filipino Martial Arts (Kali-Escrima-Arnis). Master Nols' background spans more than two decades. Starting at the age of 11, he studied a diverse range of Martial Arts including Korean Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwon Do, Japanese Karate, Aikido and Judo, as well as western boxing. In 1992, Master Nols began his studies in the Warrior Arts of the Philippines under the late Maestro Elmer Ybanez of Lema Scientific Kali-Arnis Sys-tem (LESKAS). He was granted his instructorship rank under LESKAS six years later. When Master Ybanez migrated to the United States in 1998, Master Nols continued his studies under grandmaster Benjamin Lema of Light-ning Scientific Arnis International. He was granted the Master's rank in 2001 by Grandmaster Lema, making him among the youngest Filipino Mar-tial Arts Masters at the age of 29. He is a members of the LSAI Master's Council. MK will be demonstrating the Lightning Scientific Arnis System. This system hails from the island of Panay in the Visayas and was first taught by the late Grandmaster Benjamin Luna Lema of Mambusao, Capiz. It is a fast, graceful and powerful system which encompasses four major styles of Kali-Escrima-Arnis. These include "Tercia," in reference to close or "one-thirds" fighting range; "Serrada,' in reference to a close range checking or jamming approach; "Cadenilya," the fluid linking of strikes and blocks without pause; and "Espada y Daga" or the concurrent use of a long and short weapon. MK is supported by both the local government of Davao City, provincial government of Sarangani, Department of Tourism XI as well as various members of the private sector who are helping them in their effort to bring honor to the country and their city by presenting top-notch skills in the field of personal combat and self-defense in a world-renowned festival. --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/the_dojang Copyright 1994-2006: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
