GM Timmerman & I accomplished allot the past couple days (not much on Sunday though…lol). It was also great to be able to demonstrate along side of all of you. The feedback from everyone has been nothing but positive. Everyone did a great job! Did anyone get a picture of the panel of masters? Master Gordon, The air time is due to being tossed around by GM Timmerman for so many years. The altitude is forced upon me if you know what I mean. Master Miner, I missed the issue about the cup but now I understand why your voice was an octave higher that night..lol. Master Custer, GM Timmerman reminds me of Bullwinkle, every-time he reaches into his hat he pulls out something different:-) I look forward to seeing all of you next year. This includes four major Senior National Team competitions with Olympic qualification at stake (World Championships, Pan Am Games, World Olympic Qualifier & Pan Am Olympic Qualifier), a World University Games and a Jr. Pan Am Championship. With so many competitions in 2007, it can be easy to confuse one competition with another and their trials. Therefore, to help provide understanding and clarification, below is the estimated time-line for the different team trials and the major competitions. However, please note that the 2008 Olympic Selection Procedures are under review by the U.S. Olympic Committee and it is hoped to have these ready for distribution by mid December. As well, selection procedures for the Summer World University Games and Junior National Team are being created and should be released just after the first of the year. As per the Pan Am Games Selection Procedures that were posted and distributed on March 21, 2006, and the 2007 National Team selection procedures that were posted and distributed on June 1, 2006, athletes that placed in the top four of the World Class division in each of the eight weight divisions at the Senior Nationals in Cleveland, Ohio are eligible to compete in both the Pan Am Games Trial January 5- 7, 2007 and the 2007 National Team Trial March 16, 2007. The 2007 World Championships will take place May 19-22, 2007, in Beijing, China while the 2007 Pan Am Games will take place July 13-29 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Additional competitions in 2007 with Olympic ramifications are the scheduled World Olympic Qualifier which is in late September in Manchester, England, and the Pan Am Olympic Qualifier slated for early-mid December in Colombia. These are competitions which are covered in the 2008 Olympic Selection Procedures. Remaining developmental international competitions are the 2007 Summer World University Games (SWUG) and the Pan Am Jr. Championships. The 2007 SWUG will take place August 8-18, 2007 in Bangkok, Thailand. The selection procedures for these games will be released just after the first of the year with an anticipated trial in late April of 2007. The Pan Am Jr. Championships will take place October 5-7, 2007 in Miami, Florida. For the first time in USA Junior National Team history the USA Junior National Team will be named from a Team Trial in late August 2007 instead of at the Junior Olympics. Selection procedures for the Junior Team trial will be released just after the first of the year. Pan Am Games Team Trial (Jan. 5-7, 2007) leads to 2007 Pan Am Games (July 14-27, 2007) 2007 National Team Trial (March 16, 2007) leads to 2007 World Championships (May 18-22, 2007) *2007 SWUG (late May 2007) leads to 2007 SWUG (Aug. 8-18, 2007) *Junior Olympic/Senior Nationals (July 10-15, 2007) - Not a team trial, only part of the Olympic process *Olympic Team Trial (late Aug. 2007) leads to World Olympic Qualifier (late Sept. 2007) Pan Am Olympic Qualifier (early/mid Dec. 2007) *Junior National Team Trial (late Aug. 2007) leads to Jr. Pan Am Championship (Oct. 5-7, 2007) *Exact dates for Team Trials are still pending --__--__-- Message: 7 From: Frank Clay To: Date: Thu, 16 Nov 2006 19:38:05 -0500 Subject: [The_Dojang] Won Hyo Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Won Hyo is a derivation of Pyung Ahn Yi Dan. Its close enough hat I'm not quite sure why it was even felt to make the changes. I can think of only two reasons personally: 1. In CMA, and Korea has had a long influence by her Sino-neighbor, the open hand is generally considered more advanced than the closed. 2. Nationalism cause by WWII couple with a recognition that the original hyung had some valid information.Note: These are guesses. If anyone has something more concrete as to rationale, I'd love to hear it. But your observation is correct. Won Hyo, named for the legendary Buddhist monk who introduced Buddhism to the Silla dynasty in 606 AD. I mention this because of the interesting parallel in names. Pyung Ahn means "tranquil mind" (according to the writings of the late Hon. Hwang Kee) with the implication that this practice can lead to a peaceful or tranquil mind over time.Frank Clay --__--__-- Message: 8 Date: Thu, 16 Nov 2006 16:56:00 -0800 (PST) From: Jye nigma To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net, itf-taekwondo@yahoogroups.com Subject: [The_Dojang] video clip: leg conditioning Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net http://youtube.com/watch?v=axw7DaYuXk8 --------------------------------- Sponsored Link $420,000 Mortgage for $1,399/month - Think You Pay Too Much For Your Mortgage? We don't do the "pretty" beginning like in Kwang Gae and, we don't have the step before the two side kicks. The best Won Hyo I've ever seen was done by a lithe, 28 year old, 4th Dan young lady. She was rock solid in her stances and could glide across the floor like ice on a frozen lake. Just so you understand that she wasn't just a pretty dancer, this was during a promotion test where later she broke 4 cinder blocks with a downward knife hand strike, after which, she smiled coyly and curled her hair around a finger just to make us laugh.
