Yonhap News Agency quoted an unidentified unification ministry official as saying that the South had decided to accept the North’s proposal for a joint march at the Games, “There was no reason to reject the proposed non-political sports exchanges, which have nothing to do with the North’s nuclear test,” the official said. Yonhap added that the South would officially inform the North of their decision today. – AFP Article 2: North And South Korea To Consider Joining Forces For 2008 Olympics November 22, 2006 9:51 p.m. EST Peter A. Flies - All Headline News News Writer Seoul, South Korea (AHN) - Sport may allow for an inroad to diplomacy in the ongoing standoff between North and South Korea. On Wednesday, a South Korean official said that the two countries are discussing the option of joining their teams for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The announcement came from an anonymous official in South Korea's Unification Ministry, a government organization established in 1969 to work toward realizing a single Korea. Tensions were recently increased between the two nations after North Korea's nuclear test. According to the AP, the official said South Korea "will move in a way that respects the opinion of the sports community." In the recent Olympic Games, athletes have walked together during the opening ceremonies, but South Korea has performed under its own flag. The possibility of the athletes playing together is significant when compared to the North Korean boycott of the 1988 Games in Seoul. Athletes are expected to walk together at the Asian Games in Doha, Qatar next month, and there the nations may hold talks regarding 2008, according to the Yonhap News Agency. Since 1998, South Korea has implemented a "Sunshine Policy," which was put in place to increase communication, tourism and business deals between the North and the South. One issue to be raised is how athletes will be selected from each country for the Games. In a 2000 summit between the nations, North Korea expressed wishes to have an equal number of athletes from each country, whereas South Korea wanted athletes selected by prowess. Upon investigation it was reported that in all three cases these abuses were going on for quite some time and the so-called masters were multiple abusers with criminal records." Before I was allowed to even test for black belt, I was required to present my instructor (in a WTF school) with a recent police background check to prove that I did not have a criminal background. It is a requirement of our provincial organization. This may not prevent abuse, but at least it is a beginning. Lois --------------------------------- The best gets better. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Let's see... you haven't been in the dojang in the better part of three years and you are planning to test for 3rd Dan in a couple of months. The best advice I can give you is find a dojang and instructor who expects more from their students and black belts and start over from white belt. Do you really think you qualify as a 3rd Dan without training or being in the dojang for the better part of 3 years? Time in rank requirements are not how long you've had your rank but how long you've continually trained at that rank. Forget about writing a paper and get your ass back in the dojang on a regular basis for a two to three year period then consider rank testing. You can write all the papers, books and web articles you want but it won't make you a martial artist. Just my advice and opinion, Don Kirsch --__--__-- Message: 4 From: "Artcrane" To: Date: Thu, 23 Nov 2006 09:07:14 -0500 Subject: [The_Dojang] Memorization Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Why not do both? We require the School Age children to bring in their report cards. We also have question and answer times asking what the tenets mean. On Black Belt tests, these are part of the written test every new Black Belt and poom belt candidates are required to take. --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/the_dojang Copyright 1994-2006: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
