Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Don, I have to respectfully disagree with you regarding testing, in part. I recently tested for my 3rd dan in Tae Kwon Do and 2nd Dan in Hapkido. Because of my former school closed down and various professional changes in my life and career, I really wasn't able to find a dojang with a real adult program and I wasn't interested or able to go to class on a regular basis. So I started to train on my own, albeit not at a level I would have trained in if I were in a school. When my schedule opened up and I decided to commit myself to get ready for my grading, I started going to the nearest dojang in my organization about eight months before my tests and attended class on a regular basis and doubled my training at home to get myself back in shape. After eight months, I was able to test with the quality I would expect from myself for a 3rd dan. So, IMHO, assuming Oludipe has been training on his own (remember, his post said he wasn't in a dojang, not necessarily not training), a few months in the dojang should be more than enough for testing.
