Over the year I have read the postings and learned a great deal. This brings me to my question. I recently left Chicago and moved to the north side of Indy. I have been studying Hapkido for a little over a year and really enjoy the traditional aspect plus modern applications. My instructor was a Yong In graduate and incorporated a lot of Taekwando kicking in his program. Unfortunately, he has no contacts down here to help me find a new school. Does any one know a good Hapkido school in the Indy area? If not I'm open to a quality TKO or TSD school that is more traditional and less sport orientated. In the Pan Am Games Selection Procedures on page 6 there is an explanation of the double elimination format and on page 7, an example of the format. When going through the seeding process, it was noticed that the explanation and the example did not correlate. The difference is between Advantage Seeding Double Elimination & No Double Bye Double Elimination. Advantage Seeding Double Elimination – In this form of bracketing where athletes are moved to certain spots of the losers bracket based upon original seeding. No Double Bye Double Elimination – In this form of bracketing where byes must be arranged to avoid giving a second bye to an entry that has already received a bye. After discussions with the USOC AAC representative, the USAT events department and USOC officials, the Advantage Seeding Double Elimination format was considered the most open and fair double elimination format. Therefore, on January 3, the USOC approved the revised Pan Am Games Selection Procedures to reflect the Advantage Double Elimination format. These procedures can be found at http://usa-taekwondo.us/2007PanAmGamesSelectionProceduresRevised132007.pdf. --__--__-- Message: 7 Date: Thu, 4 Jan 2007 10:12:19 -0800 From: The_Dojang To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Sentencing delayed Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Sexual exploitation sentencing delayed Thu, January 4, 2007 LONDON FREE PRESS A former Pan-American Games taekwondo instructor who pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation will wait until next month to be sentenced. Yesterday, a judge agreed to allow Philippe Villanueva, 35, to undergo a risk assessment by a psychotherapist before his next court appearance. Villanueva pleaded guilty in November to carrying on a sexual relationship with one of his female students starting when she was 14. The relationship was discovered by his business partner at Bluewater Taekwondo when he found compromising photographs on a computer of Villanueva and the girl, whose identity is protected by court order. The police eventually found almost 700 photographs. Defence lawyer Aaron Prevost asked Superior Court Justice Peter Hockin for an adjournment after researching case law for conditional sentences, all pointing to the need for a risk assessment. But assistant Crown attorney Peter Rollings, who is opposing a conditional sentence, said the defence was making "a last-ditch effort to mollify what is a very negative pre-sentence report." Hockin "regrettably adjourned" the sentencing for the report. Villanueva is to be sentenced on Feb. 23. Rollings filed two victim impact statements yesterday from the girl and her father. Hockin asked for case law before accepting a third statement from the business partner. --__--__-- Message: 8 Subject: RE: [The_Dojang] Endurance vs. Skills Date: Thu, 4 Jan 2007 19:45:39 -0000 From: To: Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Building stamina or endurance helps one to stay focussed when you have reached breaking point. When your stamina fails you drop your guard, and of course your technique also goes out of the window. Dan tien breathing is also an essential factor in building stamina. Anyway if you decide on TangSooDo, Joe Clarke and I are USKMAF brethren and as such we try to make visits to each others school monthly, so if you joined Master Clarke (in Buford) you would see me once a month when we come to Buford and once a month when Master Clarke brings his students to our school.
