Another way is to find a publisher. Pros of a publisher is they pay for everything. Cons, you don't make as much per item sale. As people know, I've done videos/dvds with Paladin Press. The nice thing about doing them with Paladin has been they pay for everything, including magazine ads, etc. In the next couple of months you will see my new HKD Cane dvd in the magazines. It is nice that I don't have to pay for those ads, etc. Downside is I get a royalty from each sale which is nowhere near what you make per dvd sale when you do them yourself. One hard thing is to find a publisher. They may already have what you are proposing, it doesn't fit with what they want, etc. Some of the bigger MA publishers are companies such as Turtle Press, Black Belt, Paladin, Century (used to be Panther). And there are a few others that are growing. A new publisher that I am involved with is Aiki Productions. Aiki has two TKD Poomse dvds for sale now, and the first two of my new Lock On series. The Lock On series will be five dvds total when finished all on joint locks. Here is a clip on Youtube of some of the techniques taught in the first two volumes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MN8i6JrHs2o Aiki Productions is looking at building a large library of titles with different instructors and various styles. Benefits of doing things with Aiki is that the company is smaller and starting out and looking to help talented martial artists make dvds that maybe they would have trouble doing themselves or with one of the bigger publishers. In the future, Aiki hopes to be on par with some of these bigger publishers. As a publisher, Aiki produces the dvds, gets them available both on the Aiki site and amazon.com Here is one of Aiki's dvds on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Power-Poomse-Taegeuk-Series/dp/B000G1TQ58/sr=8-3/qid=1170350140/ref=sr_1_3/104-8907239-6934339?ie=UTF8&s=dvd Here is the Aiki Productions website: http://aikiproductions.com/ There will be many more articles, podcasts, video clips, etc. added as the company grows. One other nice thing is if you go to the store and click on a cover, it will take you to the description page with a video clip from the dvd and you can order right on line. Aiki will also be working with other distributors to help get the dvds out to buyers. If you don't take credit cards, etc. it can be harder to sell that closet full of dvds you did yourself, etc. If this is something that interests anyone, please contact me and we can discuss in more detail. Yes, I do have an ownership interest in Aiki Productions. I just want that to be clear so people don't think I'm trying to promote myself underhandedly. I created Aiki Productions with partners and we are committed to making Aiki Productions a great company in the field of educational products related to martial arts, self-defense, health and fitness. Again, contact me if you have an idea that you think would work well with Aiki Productions and we can discuss it in more detail.
