I know this is the common practice, but isn't it kinda like cheating? I mean the guy _really_ weighs 154 at fight time, right? So his weight is artificially manipulated to make him appear to be a weight he is not, and by fight time he is over the weight limit. I'm sure there is a good explanation of why folks feel the need to do this, and I bet it goes something like: "in order to compete we have to be just as aggressive with the rules as our opponents." In my mind, this guy ought to fight at _his_ weight 170 and not try to weigh down so he can beat up on little skinny n00bs. Someone who is honest about their weight is going to get creamed in these sorts of events..... just one man's opinion and since I'm not in "the fight game" my comments can be discarded like yesterdays left over fish... dave weller On Feb 23, 2007, at 4:59 AM, the_dojang- request@martialartsresource.net wrote: > Message: 2 > From: "Gladewater SooBahkDo" > To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net > Date: Wed, 21 Feb 2007 08:48:56 -0600 > Subject: [The_Dojang] Weight Cutting > Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net > > We begin about three months out getting ready for a fight. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net All, I train at CS Kim Karate in Pittsburgh PA. We have a student (cho dan) who will be leaving Pittsburgh to continue her medical training at Geisinger Health System in Danville PA. We don't have a CS Kim or International Tang Soo Do Federation school in the area and she REALLY wants to keep up a training routine. A Web search didn't turn up any TSD schools but she heard from a colleague that there may be a TKD school somewhere in the area. That Web search turned up several dead ends so I decided to quit and ask you guys/gals. Anyone train in or near Danville PA or know anything about ANY KMA schools there? She knows it is likely she will be putting on a white belt again and starting to learn new hyung/poomse but hopes to at least be able to keep up her cardio and basics, sparring, and breaking, etc. a few times a week. Any help MUCH appreciated!! Tang Soo! MK --__--__-- Message: 3 Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] KMA in Danville PA? Not WTF, but Chuck Sereff's ITF/USTF school/org is based out of Broomfield, CO. http://www.ustf-itf.com/ Ray Terry rterry@idiom.com --__--__-- Message: 6 From: "Gordon" To: Date: Fri, 23 Feb 2007 16:30:00 -0600 Subject: [The_Dojang] student moving Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I would second GM Sereff's school. ITF is a bit of a change from WTF but I found it an interesting addition when I went from a WTF school to an ITF school.
