The electronic protector championships drew much attention from local and foreign media, especially television networks. The KBS-2TV broadcast live nationwide the second day of competitions. Early in the day, the WTF held its Executive Committee meeting at the Gangchon Resort to determine whether to adopt the electronic protector system at the upcoming World Taekwondo Championships in May this year in Beijing, China, and the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The participants in the WTF Executive Committee meeting shared the necessity of developing and adopting the electronic protector system at taekwondo competitions to ensure fair judging and refereeing. However, the consensus was that there is room for improvement of the electronic protector system and more time is required to perfect it. In this regard, the WTF will not be introducing the electronic protector system at WTF-promoted and/or sanctioned championships in 2007 and 2008, meaning that the new system will not be adopted at the WTF World Taekwondo Championships this May in Beijing, Olympic Qualifications Tournaments for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The WTF will continue with additional search to perfect the system. "For the sake of athletes, we have to give them ample time to adjust themselves to the new system and, in the meantime, we have to perfect the system before adopting at major taekwondo competitions," said a WTF official. The WTF is now collecting various opinions from experts, athletes and spectators. Korea, Italy, Mexico and Chinese Taipei won one gold medal each on the second day of the competition. In the male -68kg category, Korea's In-kyu Lee earned his country the first gold medal in the championships by beating Japan's Kiyoteru Higuchi. Korean Lee advanced to the final match, as he brushed aside a stiff challenge from Iran's Behzad Eilkhanl in the sudden-death round of a semifinal match. Spain's Omar Badia shared the bronze medal in the class. In the female -57kg class, Mexico's Iridia Salazar won the gold as he beat the Philippins' Simbulan Sabrina Jo. The bronze went to Italy's Calabrese Veronica and China's Shao Fen. In the men's over 80kg final match, Italy's Basile Leonardo defeated Turkey's Halil Ibrahim Mercimek to clinch the gold medal. The bronze medal was shared by France's Zokou Firmin and Chinese Taipei's Yuan Ming Che. In the female over 67kg category, Chinese Taipei's Isui Fang Hsuan earned her country the gold medal as she beat Greek Kouvari Kiriaki. The bronze went to Russia's Bykova Irina and Spain's Rosana Somon. --__--__-- Message: 5 Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2007 07:10:27 -0800 From: The_Dojang To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Updated Equipment Standards Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Updated Equipment Standards for US National Qualifiers Now Online The "Gloves and Foot Protectors" portion of the Equipment Standards for 2007 National Qualifiers has been changed. Ray Terry rterry@idiom.com --__--__-- Message: 10 Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2007 17:19:18 -0800 (PST) From: Jye nigma Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] Teaching Methods To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Hi, sorry I'm just now getting to this email. I've been helping my sistyer mover all week and I'M TIRED!!!! She had enough stuff to cover everyone on this list...lol. I'm typing with my right hand and eating twizzlers with my left so excuse any spellingf errors.... My point wasn't that all kids need spanking, but that society is slowly moving towards rules that favor unruly kids. The first strike is no spanking, the next will be no verbal correction, and finally parent's will be very limited in how they are permitted to discipline their kids. which means that all those in favor of these things will not discipline their kids and therefore weont like when someone else does.... for example a MA insttructor who uses exercises like push ups for discipline. Now on a side note, I realize different races raise their chuildren in different ways, but as a black child the discipline issued out from the patrents was the foundation on which respect, ethicvs, etc are developed. So that meant strict rules spasnkings and all that. In other words a parent who disciples their child understands the need to do so, and will have proper understanding of how and why certain types of discipline are used, and will have no problem when someone like an wrote: Hi Jye, > the african american community, it was a normal thing to get spanked and > very rare to speak out against your parents, but nowadays, I'm seeing young > brothers and sisters disrespect their parents, and elders and what not. So > it comes as no surprise that parents would get all bent out of shape if you > did that. They probably allow their child to do anything they want to do. But that has nothing to do with spanking or not. Spanking is definitly not necessary to educate children or for students. It is more a matter of keeping them in their limits, and doing it at right time. If you miss the opportunity to set the limits, its very hard to revert. Those guys who miss regularly this opportunity need spanking, and be sure, they will loose on the shorter or longer run.
