Every week we have a gear up class where we do everything from sport tkd to mma. Every couple weeks we do a similar format where we choose one person as the victim, with a room full of geared up students. One or two attack the victim and the victim needs to take care of biz. Twice per month we do specific scenario training where I suit up head to toe and play a threat. Verbal skills, positioning, and proper actions are needed. We do a wide range of scenarios from doorstep kidnapping for kids, to parking space disputes for adults. I start everyone slow and work them up to full contact pucker factor situations. I wear a mix of martial arts and hockey gear. Full foam dip head with hockey clear lexan face mask, shoulder upper chest from hockey, century elite sparring vest (love it), neck guard, elbow, forearm, gloves, hockey pants with extra armor sewn in, knee/shin/instep/calf guards. Much of the stuff is the basic century cloth guards or the foam dip stuff. It is light, protects me well, and not as expensive or bulky as some of the others. My entire protective gear weighs under 20 lbs and During my stint in law enforcement I've had the chance to use Hitman, Redman, Bluemax and Blauer. The first weighs about 50 lbs, 75 when sweaty. Red/blue are pretty much Macho foam dip products that are bulky and make you drip-hated them. Blauer stuff is ok, but I found it thin in places. Nice for 1 on 1 going light, but bad for the threat role as you sometimes have to take the shots and not protect yourself as well to facilitate learning. Blauer has an enhanced chest gear that looks like it would better fill that role, but I have yet to try it. The supershow is coming up in July. Blauer will again have his suit and course available. Anyone planning to attend the Las Vegas Martial Art Supershow? Perhaps a DD pub crawl might be in order??!!! One of my students who will be a green belt this summer when he moves to Tuscon AZ. is looking for a school in that area. Does anyone on the list know of any such school. I think there used to be WTA schools in the area, but I'm not sure about the present. Any help would be appreciated.
