He is no longer with the Moo Duk Kwan but most likley is still teaching in the Tulsa Area. As for the Gracie topic. I agree that MMA has opened a lot of eyes. I think Ray is right that because many traditional stylist are learning takedown defense (Sprawl, single and double leg defenses, and a good under hook game.) More strikers are winning in MMA. GJJ is not the end all be all. With that being said you have to remember that a part of the GJJ system includes stiking defense, knife defense, closing the gap, clinch, and they are good at it. I recognize that in a two on one attack GJJ may not work out so well. But for one on one it is very effective. Once they do get you to the ground, they are the best at submitting you. One very good example, About a month ago, I trained in a 3 1/2 hour semi-private seminar with Sean "The Muscle Shark" Sherk (Current light wieght Champ in the UFC at 155lbs) Keep in mind he weighs in a t 155lbs, but during our training his weight was 187lbs. We put him and George Gurgel on the scales at the last Battle Cage event. Anyway. I wrestled/Rolled with him for 4 Five min. rounds. He tried one submission, I tried two, all were unsuccessfull. He is a devision 1 wrestler that learned some submissions. All though I have been mostly involved in MDK, I began Small Circle JJ in 1992, Then aabout a year ago switched to GJJ and became an official student of the Gracie Academy under Rener Gracie. (I still maintain my MDK school) Anyway, I roll with Rener a least every 3 months, and have several GJJ Students now that I roll with weekly. Remember I rolled with Sean 20 min. with 3 total submission attempts, and no tap outs. I roll with Rener and I am lucky to make it 1 min before he has secured a submission. The difference is that Sean is a wrestler that learned to do a few submissions. Rener is a Grappler that is a submission specialist. I will have Rener at my school in White Oak, Texas June 8th and 9th this year to teach. Anyone that would like to attend is welcome. Just contact me at www.mdkregionsix.com while your there you can roll with him and see first hand JC _________________________________________________________________ Mortgage refinance is Hot. *Terms. It's quite possible he could be here and I not know it. It wouldn't be the first time.
