South Korea, the birth place of taekwondo, has chosen Malaysia as the venue for the 9th World Taekwondo Festival due to its rich heritage, culture, and wide variety of eastern and western cuisines. "More importantly, Malaysia's racial harmony blends perfectly with our theme of this year's event `Global Harmony'," World Taekwondo Festival organising committee chairman Oscar Oh told Bernama, here Wednesday. "Last year 1,328 exponents from 44 countries took part in the festival held in South Korea and this year we are expecting more, maybe 50 countries to coincide with Malaysia's 50 years of independence." He added that last year 20 Islamic countries took part in the festival and he hoped that number would increase as Islam was the main religion in Malaysia and the fact that the Malaysian prime minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is the Chairman of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC). Since the OIC comprised 57 nations, Oh felt participation from Islamic countries would see a significant increase. "The main objective of the festival is not about winning medals or competition, it is about bringing people together and educating them about the various cultures and traditions. "Once that can be achieved, global harmony can be realised," he said. He added that participants would comprise those aged from 7 to 77. Malaysia will become only the second country to host the festival after Taiwan played host in 2005. The Festival has been scheduled to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium in Cheras from June 28 to July 2. --__--__-- Message: 4 To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net (The_Dojang) Date: Wed, 11 Apr 2007 13:36:02 -0700 (PDT) From: rterry@idiom.com (Ray) Subject: [The_Dojang] Re: Question Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net > A friend of mine back in high school said he studied an art called > jim sim wong and he said it was a korean style.
