That would suggest that the court found that he had some justification. I don't recall your previous post, Dakin. What was the gist of the story here. I posted sometime earlier about his guilty plea for the 2001 slaying of Ki-gol Lee with a katana. I wrote the King County Prosecuting Attorney's office in Seattle, WA, to make sure I got the facts straight. Here's their reply: "Hui-son Choe was convicted of first-degree manslaughter, and he was sentenced to 110 months confinement on September 13, 2002. I believe the defendant is still in custody of the Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC). You can contact DOC at (206) 254-4830." Respectfully yours in Hapkido, James Allison **************************** I agree, and have tried some. A few years ago I tried to write an article about GM West and the Jackson gathering and Black Belt magazine was not interested. GM West was not a "name." I would be interested in helping promote Hapkido more, Alain www.burrese.com ________________________________________________________________________ AOL now offers free email to everyone. I got in late on this entire conversation, because I just returned from the Crestview seminar of Master Gordon. (BTW, thanks for DD people for being there, it was fun :) Over the 55 some years of practicing martial arts, I have found that the folks who "push" themselves into the limelight are often those who fail to make an impact on the mat. You are right, it IS a sad thing that newbies are not exposed to those who have more to offer than good marketing skills. Warmest personal regards, Rudy PS: Thanks to all who came to Crestview, and thanks to Master Gordon and his family for giving us this fine opportunity to come together without egos. You were a most gracious host. It was great to be able to learn from one another without the "one upmanship" that so often stands in the way of having fun. I know for one that I learned a great deal from working with GM Hwang et all, and I had a blast despite the weather problems that made a weekend trip into a seven day adventure. --__--__-- Message: 4 From: "James K Allison" To: Date: Wed, 18 Apr 2007 11:45:45 -0400 Subject: [The_Dojang] JP DROPPED Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I apologize for my lasted post. I saw a TKd video called Taekwondo Revolution of Kicking. In my opinion the video was poorly done overall. There were some good elements to it, but overall it was a poor video. One thing I noticed on there that I had never heard of before was the concept of spiral energy to penetrate the human body. I'm paraphrasing... Basically, they said that the human body is composed of x amount of water, and to strike it with a straight punch (as in boxing I suppose) would cause the energy of the striker to disperse, whereas a punch with a twisting motion (as in a corkscrew punch) delivers a spiral type energy that penetrates deeply. Has anyone ever heard of this? if so is this true? Jye --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check outnew cars at Yahoo! Everybody take the paper off of the walls, the cloth from around their waists, and go build a big bonfire. Because that's about all those certificates and belts are worth...kindling. Of course, you can forget the rest of the steps because nobody is going to step up to the plate, ditch their ego, and get rid of the very thing that causes all of the trouble...RANKS! It doesn't really matter who is the "real deal" because on the outside everybody looks like the same paper tiger. Oh, he bought his rank, and he earned his. Fine...get rid of the rank...get rid of the belts and certs...disband the organizations that prop these paper tigers up against the wall that holds all their plaques. Then what's left...knowledge...ability...CHARACTER?!?! I train for the pure love of what I do. I don't care who likes it, I don't care what the 13 yo 8th degree TKD black belts are doing over on main street, and at the end of the day I value people based upon what they know and can do (character issues aside for a moment). And to find that out you have to get on the mat with them. Everybody wants to bitch about somebody's rank, but at the end of the day they're just pissed off because they had to work a lot harder to get what somebody else got for a lot less. If you valued the knowledge and the ability above all else then you'd realize that the idiots of the world who buy their rank don't really have one up on you. But, since everybody has their eye on rank then that becomes the prize, and to hell with anything that might actually be important in martial arts...like, hell I don't know...becoming a better person through pure hard work and determination, or maybe even being able to handle yourself in case a 3rd grader challenges you to a shoving match. The grim truth is that we like the rank...we love to play "Monkey A is better than Monkey B" games. That's basically what it boils down to. You might as well save yourself the sweat and go become a Mason, or get into an initiatory group like the Golden Dawn, or some such crap. Caps and wands are cooler than belts and doboks, anyway. Of course, everything that I've just said will be shot down by the consumer protection advocates who whine about the millions of hardworking Americans who are being duped by the Pelligrini's and Hackworth's of the world, and how we need to expose these people so that the revenue stream will flow to those more deserving. Since Bruce Simms is no longer here to provide a monthly insane rant I figure I'd fill his shoes for him.
