Ko Eui-min, chairman of the World Taekwondo Federation Technical Committee, said, ``China is doubted to have been adopting its Northeast Asia Project in taekwondo.'' Northeast Asia Project is an attempt to distort ancient Korean history in the northeastern territory of what is now China, including the Koguryo Kingdom (37 B.C.-A.D. 668) and the Palhae Kingdom (698-926). ``I was really upset to hear that the broadcaster at Changping Stadium in Beijing said taekwondo is a Chinese martial art, during the 2007 World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) Championships,'' he said. On the first day of the biennial competition, he introduced taekwondo, saying, ``Taekwondo originated from Korea, combining Japanese and Chinese martial arts.''(emphasis added) So, is China trying to lay claim to the BS 2,000 year old history of TKD by claiming Koguryo was a Chinese kingdom, or is the bolded statement the extent to which the Chinese are claiming a part of TKD's origins. If its the former, then that is just plain silly - like arguing that Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny is really Chinese. If its the latter, then I don't really see what the fuss is. Is Ko, and the WTF by extension, denying TKD's roots in Karate and the influence of CMA on TKD? In the men's heavyweight (over 84kg) final, Mali's Daba Modibo Keita easily beat Iran's Morteza Rostami 3 : -1 to earn his country the first gold medal. Keita advanced to the final match as he brushed aside a stiff challenge from Korean Nam Yun-bae in a sudden death round. The bronze also went to Morocco's Zrouri Abdelkader. Croatia's Filip Grgic brushed aside a stiff challenge from Thailand's Nacha Punthong to clinch the gold medal in the men's bantamweight division. The bronze went to the Netherland's Rafik Zohri and Brazil's Ferreira Marcel. In the women's lightweight (under 63kg) final match, Canada's Karine Sergerie beat Korea's Park Hye-mi to won the gold medal. The United States' Nia Abdallah and Norway's Mona Solheim shared the bronze. As a show of the WTF's strong commitment to fairer judging and refereeing at taekwondo competitions, the WTF Competition Supervisory Board decided on May 21 to sanction two center referees who officiated matches the previous day. The board sanctioned Mr. Uwe Otterbein from Cuba and Mr. Rene Leveaux from Australia by prohibiting them from no longer participating in any capacity at the 2007 Beijing WTF World Taekwondo Championships for their poor refereeing. Mr. Otterbein officiated as the center referee for a match between Iran and Afghanistan on May 20, while Mr. Leveaux served as the center referee for a match between Spain and Korea on the same day. The board is also expected to issue a strong punishment for five coaches for their misbehavior after their respective matches. --__--__-- Message: 7 Date: Mon, 21 May 2007 15:00:25 -0700 From: The_Dojang To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Abdallah Wins Bronze Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Abdallah Wins Bronze Medal in Women's Lightweight at World Championships May 21, 2007 Nia Abdallah (Houston, Texas) made it four medals in four days for the U.S. team by earning bronze in the women's lightweight division Monday at the World Taekwondo Championships in Beijing. The U.S. has now matched its medal total from the last world championships with one day of competition remaining. Abdallah, the 2004 Olympic silver medalist, marched through her competition to reach the semifinals. She posted wins over Slovenia's Spela Sinkovec, Venezuela's Noemar Leal and Uzbekistan's Zuhridnova Sayyorahon to advance to the medal round. In the semifinal match, Abdallah held a 2-1 lead heading into the final round against Korea's Park Hye-Mi, but lost a 4-2 decision. Park was defeated in the gold medal match by Canada's Karine Sergerie. Norway's Mona Solheim claimed the other bronze medal. This was Abdallah's first world championship medal. In men's bantamweight action on Monday, Brian Gallagher (Littleton, Colo.) opened with a 5-0 win over Kuwait's Saad Alhubaidah, but then lost a 5-2 decision Azerbaijan's Rovshan Mammadov. Croatia's Filip Grgic won the gold medal over Thailand's Nacha Punthong. Bronze medalists were Rafik Zohri of the Netherlands and Ferreira Marcel of Brazil. Men's heavyweight Josh Coleman (Winston-Salem, N.C.) faced a stiff test in his opening match, losing 5-2 to two-time Olympic bronze medalist Pascal Gentil of France. But Gentil did not advance to the medal round. Mali's Daba Modibo Keita won the heavyweight gold over Iran's Morteza Rostami, while bronze medals went to Korea's Nam Yun-Bae and Morocco's Zrouri Abdelkader. The U.S. squad will try to earn its fifth medal on Tuesday's final day of competition and surpass its 2005 medal total. In action for the U.S. on Tuesday is women's welterweight Simona Hradil (Los Angeles, Calif.), men's middleweight Antony Graf (Miami, Fla.) and women's heavyweight Lynda Laurin (Austin, Texas). --__--__-- Message: 8 Date: Mon, 21 May 2007 16:37:12 -0700 From: The_Dojang To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] break that horse Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Forwarding to the list... ============================= Master Terry, Your request for finding a breaking horse for your martial arts training has been forwarded from the ITF to Master Wheatley to my instructor, Mrs. VanZile. My husband has invented and patented a Martial Arts Board Holder and has sold several of these to both members of the Global TaeKwonDo Federation and the International TaeKwonDo Federation. We are in the process of setting up a website but at this point there are no photos available. However, if you are interested in speaking to someone who has purshased several of these please feel free to contact Mrs. Carol VanZile - 5th Dan with the ITF at 419-882-9934 (Great Lakes Global TaekwonDo School) or my husband himself (Nick) at 419-865-5275.
