Joe has a point about the almighty $$ when it comes to all the other colors of the rainbow, and there is certainly room to think that. Problem is we live in a cash based economy and every one has to eat and pay rent and taxes even TKD Instructors. --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Wed, 13 Jun 2007 08:31:33 -0400 From: "Lasich, Mark D." When I was in US TangSooDo MDK, a green belt, wasn't just a green belt - depending on what gup you were, your green belt could have one, two or even three stripes on the tip. This signified a range of 6th gup - 4th gup. Today some styles just have a different color belt to represent each gup level - This may be a relatively recent practice, but, I believe, can equate more to the psychology of advancement and motivation rather than just a monetary/McDojang issue. I would hope that each style can provide the symbolism behind each color and why their particular style chooses to use colors and/or stripes. This alone adds character to each art, and makes their particular belt system meaningful to those involved with that art. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Sid, I have been involved in KMA for 34 years and Tang Soo Do for 21, and I would have to say my experience from beginning to now is directly opposite yours.
