During the European Rennaisance, the climax of the sex act was often refered to as the "Little Death" as it was thought that you lost some of your vital energy each time, bringing you closer to death. Both Hindu and Buddhist ascetic practices make a big deal out of the relationship between sex and vital energy. One common ascerity practiced to gain more spiritual power was sexual abstinence. Though some -- notably left-handed tantric -- paths, taught the opposite: that sex was a good way to gain spiritual power if done in the correct way.>>> Jeremy is one with the correctness. Semen retention is also a central theme in just about every piece of serious literature I've seen related to Taoist health practices. Their model equates man-juice to life force...you start out with so much and it dwindles with "use". Solution? All that Jade Emperor magical spine orga$m jive. So, this is why people who get married live longer. Thank your wife for no longer putting out, guys. She's actually saving your life. --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Dugy" To: Date: Mon, 25 Jun 2007 20:27:54 -0400 Subject: [The_Dojang] Re: Why we wear belts/ sex before training Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Hello, The stripes I am referrring to are the temporary electrical tape stripes that are put on as you advance thru your curriculum. They are just a way of telling the student and teacher how far he has progressed. I feel justified receiving the stripe, making me feel that I have earned this stripe and the fact the teacher also recognizes that I have come this far. This is on the right side of the belt. On the left side of the belt, the stripes show the previous belts as I have mentioned. No, to me this is not unusual as I had taken a bit of TKD from an ATA source prior to my combat hapkido training and we also used the tapes. Teachers are human too and can forget where a particular student is in his curriuculum, especially if he has many students. I think this is an excellent way to instantly recognize the students progress. The stripes others here are talking about are the embroidered (usually gold color?) that indicate dan ranking I am assuming. I'd like to add that I personally feel 100% physically fit the day after sex. I feel I am more alert, my timing is more precise, in all, I feel very alert, ready to do battle. Of course, the question was sex during training...not before a cage fight or serious encounter. I think the release of what's bottled inside one allows better concentration and agility. Of course that's my personal opinion. Do you know of other Combat Hapkido schools that use stripes? The Combat Hapkido school I attend does not use stripes on the belt except for Black Belts --__--__-- Message: 3 From: "Dugy" To: Date: Mon, 25 Jun 2007 21:07:33 -0400 Subject: [The_Dojang] Hapkido Seminars? Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Hello, While visiting Red River Hapkido (very interesting sight which I was a ble to download some great moves), I came across a picture tittled: Dojang Digest members at the 18th International Hapkido Seminar, Jackson, Mississippi 3/03. Some of you in dark gs and some of you in white, but looks like you're all black belts! I was wondering if you all plan another gettogether... also if anyone knows of a hapkido seminar coming up soon? I've never attended a Hapkido seminar other than the combat hapkido recently and I really want to train with others. Thanks. I think Indiana was the first state to institute physical education in the curriculum of its schools. Rick Clark -----Original Message----- From: Burdick, Dakin Robert [mailto:burdickd@indiana.edu] Hi Folks, Glad to see Rick bringing up the influence of the Turnverein. I did some research on them for my dissertation and actually was at the first Turner fest since 1917 at Indianapolis in the early 1990s. IUPUI has large holdings on the turnverein, whose Normal School for Gymnastics was the origin of Indiana University's Physical Education program. Back in the 1940s, they still had a beer hall and bowling alley downstairs at the Phys Ed program at IUPUI. Now that's an education I could enjoy! :) Von Baelz and his influence on Kano is also discussed in my dissertation, which of course you can purchase through Dissertation Abstracts (hint hint). I guess I ought to get it out in book form sometime soon, huh? Take care, Dakin dakinburdick@yahoo.com --__--__-- Message: 5 Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] Hapkido Seminars?
