Rick or at most Mr. Clark. I really don't like "Master" I am far from that, believe me. I am still at the "say as I say not as I do" point in my life. If I ever get to the point where it's "do as I do" then perhaps "Master". > after CDK, from what I'm told by Grand Master Hwang, HU Lee joined ITF and become the NGB of ITF (before >there were official National Governing Bodies). Supposedly, he was to be the poster boy for ITF and under the tutelage/wing of Master Kang (now >Grand Master Kang still living in NY). I never knew that HU Lee was part of the ITF, and from what I know (knew) of him I find it hard to believe that he was part of Gen. Choi's organization. HU Lee was rather tight with Son Duk Son and his World Tae Kwon Do Association when HU Lee still wore the badge of the Mid-West Tae Kwon Do Association. I always had the impression that the Mid-West TKD Assn. was his personal association in Iowa and that he was a member in good standing of the WTF (Son's group). As you may know Son and Choi did not get along, so for HU Lee to be part of the ITF would surprise me. Back in the 60's perhaps the 70's he was still part of Son's group. Son Duk Son was and a "bit opinionated" to say the least. I really can't imagine that HU Lee would have been involved in the ITF and I would not have heard something from the Korean instructors I knew at the time. I can only guess that Son Duk Son would have "blown a gasket" if he knew that HU Lee were involved with Gen. Choi, and I am quite sure as close as I was to some of the Korean instructors under Son that I would not have heard about such a connection. > The ITF also doesn't have weapons such as the short sticks so it was after that. Seems like it was first > introduced in the early 90's. At first Protech was an added bonus but later became a requirement. I don't know if I can go along with this in the strictest sense. In Choi's book he published back in the 60's he did show techniques against a stick. Now you may think that the stick was not short or it was longer, or that the person was attacking with the stick rather than using the stick as a weapon. But I have always thought that you should be able to use a weapon offensively in an effective way before you can really develop techniques to defend against them. So - perhaps he (the ITF) had some skill in both offensive and defensive aspects of stick work? I just read this article http://www.bullshido.net/modules.php?name=Reviews&file=viewarticle&id=308 the other day about a jujutsu school in Corpus that sounds really top notch. Also, the Muay Thai teacher at the Relson Gracie Academy here in Austin started off taking TKD down in Corpus and I could ask him about his old school if you like. Lee was in fact a member of Choi's ITF. The ATA was like a NGB for the ITF, and H.U. was, as a 7th Degree, on the Board of Directors of the ITF as the treasurer (from my reading of an old ITF publication in the Denver Public Library, circa 1972 or 1974 if memory serves). ATA went independent along with other groups when Gen. Choi named American (read non-Korean) Chuck Sereff and his USTF as the only governing body for ITF in the US. Serreff remained in that position for many years until GM Hwang was appointed to head KATU on the East coast cause Sereff had alienated so many folks. Dante James Dante J. After a crazy year, two fires, my brain tumor coming back, among other things, I'm taking offers for the supply company. It's been a tough decision to make since this has been my baby, actually eight years old now, but the decision is made. We doubled in sales gross every year except last year. With everything that's been going on personally, I simply have been having a hard time keeping up with the business. I want to spend more time focusing on my family, my health, and my training/teaching as the doc allows. I started the biz since I didn't like paying so much for my own gear and wanted to pass along the discounts I got to others. I wanted to treat people as my fellow martial artists, not numbers on a spreadsheet. I feel like I've been able to do that until recently. I'd prefer we were bought out by a martial artist or martial arts group who understands the needs of other martial artists. Let me know if you're interested. Thanks to all my buddies on the DD for their friendship and support throughout it all.
