I had originally identified myself as being referred by John Hancock and you and I had a good laugh over that. You also said that definitely made me a legit martial artist (that gave my wife a good laugh) Could you give me a ball park figure that you would be looking for to sell the business. My wife has a regular 40 a week salaried job handling customers over the phone and fax in a highly specialized (but boring) field. She has been in the martial arts through me since 1974. We run our school American Defensive Arts together. I have to work a part time job outside of teaching to bring enough money in to pay all the bills. When I re-read your e-mail for the 10th time I got thinking that your business might be just the thing for our family (me, Dianne & daughter Aubrey to run) Aubrey is a photographer but always having a tough time to find enough work in her areas of specialization. She has been around the martial arts through me since being a toddler and she is now 29. What I am saying is that it would not just be me as a master instructor with 6 black belts to have a business like this but two other family members as well. On top of that we have had our own business in the past and my wife is a good bookkeeper etc. I might be interested if the price was affordable. We really don't have much money but did inherit a small some recently that might do it if the figures aren't really high. Any info you could give would help in a decision to pursue talking with you. Another question that comes to mind is do you have a lot of stock on hand that we would have to purchase from you? I know it varies from one martial arts supply company to the next as to what they carry in their inventory. I know Asian World told me one time that the group in New Jersey would keep a low stock, wait till it got low and then drive across the river into Philly and buy stuff off Asian World. I laughed till my side hurt on that one. I will be anxious to hear from you. What type of net income do you have come in to you from this if you don't mind my asking. My wife makes only about 32,000 a year without the Christmas bonus and I make considerably less. In the spirit of the arts, Steven Riggs ChunjiDo@aol.com wrote: Dear Friends & Family, (Ray, I hope you dont mind the post.) After a crazy year, two fires, my brain tumor coming back, among other things, I'm taking offers for the supply company. It's been a tough decision to make since this has been my baby, actually eight years old now, but the decision is made. We doubled in sales gross every year except last year. With everything that's been going on personally, I simply have been having a hard time keeping up with the business. I want to spend more time focusing on my family, my health, and my training/teaching as the doc allows. I started the biz since I didn't like paying so much for my own gear and wanted to pass along the discounts I got to others. I wanted to treat people as my fellow martial artists, not numbers on a spreadsheet. I feel like I've been able to do that until recently. I'd prefer we were bought out by a martial artist or martial arts group who understands the needs of other martial artists. Let me know if you're interested. Thanks to all my buddies on the DD for their friendship and support throughout it all.
