Bear in mind I know the Gracies did not invent ground fighting, but they did bring it to the public eye. I hate it when I see a Gracie lose, but sometimes it's ok to say I was beaten by something I taught/started. I personally first heard of it from Mas Ayoob in his LFI-I class in the late 1980s. He was telling LEOs to take the time to learn BJJ since they take a fight to the ground, aka felony prone (which is where the stat that most fights go to the ground really comes from).
