This has been in the works for several months with a lot of communication between contacts at the Pentagon, Major Lyles in Qatar, Grand Master Hwang and myself. This trip will be sponsored by the US government and they are picking up the tab with airfare, lodging, meals, etc. Therefore, this is only open to those possessing a US passport and either a US citizen or lawful permanent US resident. This event is scheduled for the March 2008 time frame and Grand Master Hwang told me that he specifically wants this open to ITF practitioners regardless if they are in UITF or not. Obviously, Grand Master Hwang will want to produce a top notch touring team. He has already set dates for tryouts and training sessions: Sunday, August 19 in New York (location to be announced) Saturday, August 25 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Weekend of November 10 in Crestview, Florida You are welcome to apply if you are interested in being on the ITF Demo Team and: 1 - Able to get off from work for 10-15 days 2 - US citizen or lawful permanent US resident 3 - Have a US Passport 4 - Able to travel for training. Most of this will be near Connecticut and the New England states. At this time, expenses in travel are up to the individual participants. 5 - The list of countries we are looking at going to is Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, etc. Iraq and Afghanistan is on the list but doesn't appear that we'll be going there. I specifically asked about the security and I was told "..you'll get more protection than the average soldier, but less than the President." So if this region is an issue, don't apply. 6 - 18 years old or older. What you'll get out of this? Most importantly, support for our troops. Despite the personal feelings of the war, the troops are doing their job. You'll also get to train directly under Grand Master Hwang and get to tour with him overseas all while giving you a lifetime of memories. If you're interested, email a detailed biography giving your full name, rank, address, phone number, martial arts history, and why you should be selected. Six months sounds like a long time - but it isn't. We need some qualified ITF practitioners that are able to meet the requirements above. If that's you, apply. info@unified-itf.com is the email address. As a footnote to the November 10 training, this is the weekend that Grand Master Hwang will be at our school. Many months ago, Grand Master Hwang and I started discussing about Grand Master Rhee coming to Crestview with him. This finally appears to becoming a reality. There's a small handful of men personally trained and promoted to ninth degree by General Choi. I am personally very excited about doing a joint seminar with two of them. Grand Master Rhee was the first to be promoted to ninth degree and Grand Master's Sereff and Hwang were promoted the same day (or at least, have the same date on their ninth degree certificates). Grand Master Hwang will conduct a seminar and rank promotional testing the same weekend. It will be a very busy weekend and something that we've been working on for many, many months! Let me know if you have any questions.
