Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net <<< Many thanks! I found the clip (or, at least a piece of it) - man that was an ugly fight. I didn't realize it was UFC2. Long time ago.>>> It used to suck to be Fred Ettish, but I think he's finally outlived the legend. In the late 90's you couldn't visit an MMA message board without seeing someone invoking his name as an insult..."Man, dude got Fred Ettished". Then there was that Fred Ettish Fetal Fighting Position webpage that kept popping up and taken down. There's no telling how much money he spent in legal fees hounding people to stop slandering him. He seems like a nice guy who just didn't know what he was getting himself into. A stiff right hand from a pro kickboxer will send a couple of decades of "Matsumura Kenpo" or whatever right down the crapper. I still have my old VHS tape of that event. Lots of legendary beatdowns occurred on that show. Good times...good times. The training was led by Dr. Misha Thackrey who presented the latest WTF/Kukkiwon poomsae standards and recent poomsae changes. Grandmaster Chan-Yong Kim led the team in mental preparation techniques at the training and poomsae presentation. The 20-member U.S. Team will be competing at the 2nd WTF World Poomsae Championships in Incheon, Korea, Nov. 4-6. Future team training will be held Sept. 23 at Chambliss Taekwondo in Torrance, Calif., Oct. 13 in Berkeley, Calif., and Oct. 27 at Thackrey Taekwondo in Fresno, Calif. --__--__-- Message: 5 From: Foodles98@aol.com Date: Fri, 31 Aug 2007 23:10:00 EDT Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] Poomsae Training To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net My son loves Poomsae and is very good at his forms. He is better at Poomsae than Olympic fighting, in fact, he would rather compete at a national/and or world level in Poomsae, and leave the Olympic Sparring to some of his very talented teammates who attend our dojo. At the Junior Olympics in San Jose recently he took 3rd in his Red Belt division which had about 26 kids. At the Portland Oregon Qualifier he took the gold medal in Poomsae for his division (he was a Blue Belt at that time.) He has just turned 9 in August. Where do I go to find out more info about Poomsae competitions, the teams and qualifying? My son attends a dojo which does well in Poomsae, but the main focus is Olympic Sparring. Our school is a member of the USAT and WTF. Any info would be much appreciated.
