There are different types of flexibility; the type of flexibility needed for a wrestler is different from the type needed for a gymnast is different than the type neededfor a kickboxer. A very good reference is "Stretching Scientifically" http://www.amazon.com/Stretching-Scientifically-Flexibility-Training-Revision/dp/0940149451/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-3135098-4601756?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1188591659&sr=1-1 it goes into all the details of which I'm recounting a few. His wife has told me how much his martial arts training had meant to him, and that he was looking forward to becoming a master. I would like to award him posthumously a 4th dan certificate and belt, and present it to his wife at our next black belt testing. I have never had to deal with anything like this before, and I was wondering if anybody knows of any protocal or guidelines, or has any suggestions regarding this matter. Thanks for the help, Kent _________________________________________________________________ News, entertainment and everything you care about at Live.com. Cheongju Hosts Martial Arts Festival Yoon Won-sup The Korea Times Staff Reporter CHEONGJU _ The National Martial Arts Festival was held Sunday in Cheongju Gymnasium in North Chungcheong Province to promote the spirit of martial arts in the nation. The World Hapkido Association organized the annual event where a variety of martial arts were shown, such as hapkido, kickboxing, guard martial arts and so on. Eum Sang-sup, chairman of the association, said the purpose of the event is to show the nation's traditional martial arts, which he believes will ultimately lead to world peace. ``There is no peace without a war, and we need to be physically prepared to stay in peace,'' Eum said. The festival classified its events into six categories according to their age, ranging from elementary students to adult professionals. Eum said that it is indispensable for martial arts practitioners to take a humble attitude and help the weak as shown in the festival. He viewed the festival as an opportunity to save youths from violence and to promote health. Eum is a well-known martial arts expert. In 1996, he set a record for the number of dans, or black belts in various martial arts with 51. Now, he holds a total of 78 dans in hapkido, guard martial arts, kumdo, kickboxing, kongsudo and hwarangdo. In 1998, Eum decided to make a contribution to the national interest of martial arts with his talent. He created eight organizations, including the World Hapkido Association, Fighting Martial Arts and Crime Prevention National Campaign Center that gained acknowledgment from the government. As head of these organizations, he has been exclusively in charge of security, escorting VIPs. To maintain his physical condition, every winter he goes to a deep lake in Inje, Kangwon Province, where he breaks ice, goes under the water and trains his mind and body. I dont recall our Master using the term "dojo". He says "our school". The main focus of our school is Traditional Tae Kwon Do, especially with the younger students. He is certified to teach Hapkido and Judo as well. I have used the term at times thinking that it was a more "generic" term for Martial Arts School. Many people I know use the term "dojo", I think they also just dont realize it is not used in Tae Kwon Do. Thank You for enlightening me, I learn something new everyday regarding Martial Arts. My son has been involved in Martial Arts for 5 years, I just started in January and have so much to learn. I know it will be an exciting journey on the way to my Black Belt! ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour --__--__-- Message: 5 From: "Dennis Overall" To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: RE: [The_Dojang] posthumous promotion Date: Sun, 02 Sep 2007 15:00:23 -0500 Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Kent, I think what you are doing is very admirable.  I would go as far if possible to award the gentleman the 5th Degree Black Belt, (which is master in most arts).  I think that anyone who has dedicated his or her life to martial arts and has attained the attributes desireable of master is very deserving of this honor.  Please give my sympathy to the widow.
