My wife and I went to open a new bank account yesterday. I was accepted but she was not. The banker showed us the screen. She had a hit in Check Systems and was flagged for bankruptcy. She's never filed bankruptcy and when that allegedly occurred in Indiana, she lived in Boston. Now the check systems thing. I can say for sure who did this to her but this will probably sound familiar. My wife has her real name which she uses when transacting any business of any sort. She uses her nickname with me and people we consider friends. That nick is "Dani". Someone in Ocoee, FL apparently opened up bank accounts under "Danny" Clay using her social at M&I Bank and Amsouth, allowed both to become overdrawn and then allowed them to be unsatisfactorily closed. This could only have been done by someone that new both of us and had access to her PII and that list is incredibly small. Before you ask, my wife fully intends on pursuing this matter. Right now it seems that the FTC is empowered to work with identity theft. If you or any of your friends have had any dealings with anyone in Ocoee, FL, then I strongly recommend that you keep a close eye on your credit. I don't know how you can check check systems, but if you've joined any groups, associations, etc that may have a question on their application about your social, don't answer it. If you already have, keep an eye out for yourself. If you have any information that could be of use, and would be willing to testify, please get with us offline. You can reach me here offline and then we'll talk further.
