Ogden CEDAR RAPIDS - Call it "unification without politics." That's exactly what Guy Smith called the Goodwill Tour 2007, an event that will bring the North Korean Tae Kwon Do Demonstration Team to five U.S. cities, including Cedar Rapids, for a goodwill tour. "It's unprecedented," he said of a North Korean group touring the United States. The tour is the dream of longtime Cedar Rapids resident Woo Jin Jung, owner of Jung's Tae Kwon Do Academy and New Life Fitness World, who started working on this 15 years ago. "It's exciting," said Jung, a South Korea native who moved to Cedar Rapids more than 30 years ago. "I'm not political ... I'm Cedar Rapids person, I'm Iowa person, I'm U.S. person." Last year, Jung and a delegation of martial arts practitioners visited North Korea. Smith, who will serve as chairman for the local event, said he's seen the show only on tape. He described it as acrobatic and athletic. "It's the whole art," he said. "This is old school from a primitive society. "It will be something you don't see every day." The Cedar Rapids show will be held Oct. 10 in the 500-seat auditorium at the Scottish Rite Temple, 616 A Ave. NE. There will be additional seating, if needed. Tickets are $10. Call (319) 396-1980. Other shows will be held Oct. 6 in Los Angeles, Oct. 7 in San Francisco, Oct. 13 in Louisville, Ky., and Oct. 14 in Atlanta. Go to www.usnktkd.com for more information about the tour. --__--__-- Message: 4 Date: Wed, 3 Oct 2007 12:51:39 -0700 From: The_Dojang To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] World Taekwondo Olympic Tournament Wraps Up Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net WTF World Taekwondo Olympic Tournament Wraps Up in Resounding Success in Manchester 01 Oct The WTF World Taekwondo Qualification Tournament concluded in a resounding success in Manchester, the United Kingdom on Sept. 30, 2007. No protest was lodged during the three-day event. Korea earned a full four berths for the taekwondo competition at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games after three days of the WTF World Taekwondo Qualification Tournament. France, Cuba, Canada, Italy and Chinese Taipei clinched two places each for the Beijing Olympic Games through the World Qualification Tournament, which took place at the Manchester Evening News (MEN) Arena in downtown Manchester. The tournament drew 328 players from 104 countries, with the attendance of 54 international referees from 41 countries. Ten other countries won one ticket each for the 2008 Olympic Games. They are the United States, Great Britain, Germany, the Philippines, Australia, Mali, Croatia, Greece, Mexico and Thailand. The final day of the Manchester qualification tournament featured two weight categories of the men's -80kg and the women's -57kg. In the men's -80kg category, Canada's Sebastien Michaud placed first, while the United States' Steven Lopez and Italy's Mauro Sarmiento placed second and third, respectively, earning their countries a berth each for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In the women's -57kg division, Korea's Lim Su-jeong placed first, while Italy's Veronica Calabrese and Thailand's Premwaew Chonnapas placed second and third, respectively. A total of 128 athletes are to compete in the taekwondo competition of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Through the World Qualification Tournament, the top three athletes from each of the eight Olympic weight categories, totaling 24, qualify their national Olympic committees a place in the respective event. Through the WTF's five continental qualifications, a total of 96 places, comprising of 48 men's and 48 women's places, will be allocated. Asia, Europe and Pan America will be allocated 24 places each in the same competition format. Africa and Oceania will have 16 and eight places, respectively. The immediate continental qualification is the African Taekwondo Qualification Tournament scheduled for Nov. 1-3 this year in Tripoli, Libya, followed by the Asian qualification Nov. 29-Dec. 2 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The Oceania qualification is slated for Dec. 1 in New Caledonia; the Pan-American qualification on Dec. 7-9 in Cali, Colombia; and the European qualification on Jan. 26-27, next year in Istanbul, Turkey. --__--__-- Message: 5 Date: Wed, 3 Oct 2007 10:46:14 -0700 (PDT) From: Jye nigma To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] video clip: aikijujutsu Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3e55q2oFqXU&mode=related&search= Jye --------------------------------- Building a website is a piece of cake. Way too much sutemi waza (sacrifice techniques), for one thing. "Aikijujutsu" is surely one of the most abused terms in martial arts. There are very few bona fide AJJ organizations, and they can all pretty much trace their lineage back to either Daito-ryu or Yanagi-ryu. On the other hand, the impostors are legion. Does anbody know if this guy has any link to Daito-ryu or Yanagi-ryu? Any info is appreciated. Wasn't there a National Hapkido Federation that was headed by that fake from Florida? The one that was kicked out of the KHF as well as the Kukkiwon... Or was that the National Hapkido Assoc? There is a "Robert Gelinas" that shows in Google search as a "Soke" and a "Hanshi", so he would not be a Hapkido or a KMA person.
