Greetings, all... Not so much right now, but it always seems like attendance seems to slump for those middle gup ranks.. Green belt (5th gup in our system) seems to be about where many students think they know everything and try to show it to the lower gups... And of course, they soon after learn they DON'T know everything :) And by 4th gup (blue belt), they realize the expectations are getting higher, etc. So there tends to be lower attendance and the attrition is certainly higher at those ranks... But wow, if you can get them through it, they almost certainly end up testing for their 1st dan some day... *bows* - Bert Edens Springdale, Arkansas --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Gordon Okerstrom" To: Subject: RE: [The_Dojang] RE: Green Belt Woes Date: Wed, 10 Oct 2007 11:21:57 -0500 Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Hello Mr. Edens, We lose them at white belt (you expect that when they realize they have to work to advance). We loose them after black belt (they think the goal is realized). It's the middle belts 6th, 5th & 4th gup that bug me. You know, you're right, if they get past blue belt they usually make it to at least black belt. My original post was more directed to how this may be addressed. Any ideas on how to keep them? John Mc Grath, founder of Waterford Martial Arts was presented with his 4th Dan. John said he was delighted to receive such a promotion from a world famous Martial Artist. Waterford Martial Arts Instructor's Pat Evans and John Fitzgerald were awarded with Red Belts and are both honoured to train under Grandmaster Ji Han Jae.
