I cannot think of a martial arts instructor I have met that is more deserving of this honor, and I congratulate GM West for his love, and dedication to the art of Hapkido that led him to this point.? The proof is in the pudding too.? A visit on any night to his school to observe his students, and his instructors,?is clear evidence of the product of his teaching.? I'm proud to have had the opportunity to work with him, however briefly and would recommend any student interested in learning the art of Hapkido that can make a path to his school to do so without hesitation. Dr. Kimm holds a 9th dan in Hapkido from the KidoHwe, also a 9th dan from both the Kodokan and the Korea Yudo College, an 8th dan in Kuk Sool Won, a 5th dan in Tae Kwon Do, all to go along with his 9th dan in HanMuDo...... If my memory serves me correctly, Dr. Kimm became associated with Mr. Suh in 1974 and began to drift away in the early 1980s. He began organizing HanMuDo immediately after that, and had the first organizational meeting of HanMuDo instructors in my living room in 1989. In truth, if you speak to a senior Korean, they consider Dr. Kimm a Yudo practitioner who was undefeated in college, military and open tournaments prior to moving to the USA in 1963, where as a US citizen, he was a member of the 1972 Olympic Judo team (he did not make the trip to Munich due a severe stomach virus as I remember) and is still an Olympic Judo judge. His qualifications go well beyond his being only a KSW practitioner......being under him for all but the first 3 years of my 40+ years of teaching Hapkido, I am fairly familiar with his history and abilities on the mat.........JRW --__--__-- Message: 6 Date: Sun, 21 Oct 2007 08:44:41 -0700 (PDT) From: Bruce Sims To: Ray Terry Subject: [The_Dojang] Regarding Commerce Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net The 500# gorilla in the room seems to be the idea of the KIDOHAE, the World Kido Association and other entities as commercial ventures. If there has been a dramatic upsurge in non-Korean Hapkido practitioners perhaps it is because Americans can smell a buck from a great ways off. The Koreans need to take responsibility for selling their martial traditions, selling rank, selling memberships, selling titles and selling seminars. By extension I don't think they have a lot of room to woof if Westerners have picked-up on the manner of playing fast and loose with accountability in the name of a respectable profit margin. . No real point except to say that I get tired of everyone dancing around the real issue. FWIW. Best Wishes Bruce __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! I really like the electronic scoring as all involved can easily tell if an exchange resulted in a point or not. How easily have you found it to set up and run?
