I did not ask for the "degree", I did not know I was to receive one, I certainly did not pay for it but because it was given by Dr Petrotta I was honored and humbled to receive it. One gentleman used a reference to receiving an "attaboy" from your instructor. I would agree with that sentiment. For my instructor or any grandmaster of whom I hold in such high regard to give me any praise what ever the reason, praise is greatly appreciated and will always be remembered. At the time of the presentation and announcement I had no clue as to what was taking place. Dr Petrotta was winding up the seminar by addressing the men and women who attended. I was standing off to the side staring at the floor as I was exhausted from not sleeping much for two days just wanting everything to go just right to honor Dr Petrotta. Frankly my mind was on going home to take a nap! As he was speaking it slowly occurred to me that he was talking about someone to receive an award and it then dawned on me that he might be talking about me! So to clear the record for all time. I didn't ask for it, know about it, pay for it but I do cherish it. My mother taught me that it is not the gift that counts but the thought that went into the gift. The gift quite frankly is on a piece of paper. The thought I will hold and treasure in my heart because of who gave it to me because he recognized some contributions I have made to the arts in general and to the ISA in specific. SC Riggs Ray wrote: > Ask Master Riggs how much he paid for the piece of paper I presented to him? George, I'm not really concerned with what Steven paid or did not pay. That is not the point here. I seriously doubt that you are in the biz of selling fake diplomas or degrees. e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diploma_mill The issue is the many fake diploma mills that will sell anyone any degree they wish, for the low low sum of $xxx. Places like Columbia State University in Louisiana or Hamilton University in Wyoming or Stanton University in Hawaii or Hartley University and University of Wexford in England, etc... will sell an MBA or Ph.D. or probably even a DMA (Doctor of Martial Arts) to anyone that sends them enough $. There used to be a good source for finding what institutions of higher learning were real or fake, Bear's Guide by John Bear. But not sure if it is being updated these days. Back at 4th dan (16 years ago) I would guess that I knew only 1/2 of what I know now. I have only been doing this 33 years, and there is so much more to learn... Cheers!
