You mention your > system teaches through 7th degree? What type of > material does your system teach above 4th degree? > Requirements above fourth Dan include but are not limited to; Cane Techniques, Sword skills, Rope techniques, Fan techniques, Knife techniques, Pressure Point Techniques, Weapons disarms, Double Dan Bong techniques, Multiple opponent techniques, Breaking, Sparring drills, Special situation skills, etc. I have documented our entire system and have a manual that all our Instructors use to learn and teach by. We have many drills that we use to help our members develop skill with the techniques. Knowledge without application is useless information. I see demo's on the net that are either ridiculous showboating or just awful sloppy. This is IMHO because above certain ranks there is no accountability, no knowledge requirements or no testing. Just sloppy demo's and time in grade. And I know that you have to take age, and other factures into consideration but without Curriculum or requirements the Quality of the Master Ranks will just start to suffer after awhile. Just a quick note, It will be real interesting to see what the KIDO USA requirements will end up being. I have a copy of the Korea Ki Do requirements that I had translated years ago after traveling to Korea and training at the Headquarters when it was in Pusan. But that's another story for another time. Respectfully yours in Hapkido Sun Moo Kwan, James Allison P.S. Also check out Dr Kimm's curriculum for HanMuDo...I believe it goes through 8th Dan. --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Frank Clay" To: Date: Fri, 23 Nov 2007 23:43:16 -0600 Subject: [The_Dojang] RE: Mr Riggs Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I'm sorry. Dr of what? Is this a true doctorate? What was the dissertation on? My wife just received her PhD. Arduous process. I know that some swamp rats down the southern way claim PhDs without doing the work. Or are we talking an ersatz school? ~f. --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Fri, 23 Nov 2007 23:15:15 -0600 From: "Dennis McHenry" To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Sensei Steven Riggs Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net "Sensei" Riggs - don't you teach Korean martail arts, like Tang Soo Do? Why would a KMA instructor use that title? Haven't you followed some of the recent postings that others have made regarding a KMA instructor using Japanese title? I would think that someone with a "Master of Philosophy in Martial Science" would know the difference. --__--__-- Message: 4 To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Sat, 24 Nov 2007 12:49:01 -0500 From: sidtkd@aol.com Subject: [The_Dojang] degrees in martial arts Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net The awarding of unaccredited degrees is certainly not something new. The use of unaccredited degrees should not be something that gets us nuts. Until 20 some years ago Harvard University was unaccreedited insofar as it was the only American University that had a British charter. When people use phony doctorates this is a cause for alarm unless it is clearly stated that the degree honorary or if the University sttaes as such. Honary doctorates are awarded daily.? I am far more concerned about phony black belts. Doctorates in martial arts that come from masters, schools or unaccredited, will in the long run demonstrate a need for such and will result in increasing amounts of schools offering degrees in martial arts. As an aside, there is no more honorable man than George Petrotta. If he gives a school document indicating a Master or doctorate is is clear about its status. He was the ONLY man in the U.S. that voluntarily asked me to publish my article about phony kukkiwons. He's the same man that at his peril wanted to offer kukkiwons at low cost.? He is deserving of all our praise. ________________________________________________________________________ Email and AIM finally together. George is a fine fellow, no problem there. But there is -NO- peril in offering "at cost" Kukkiwons. Zero, nada, zip. A lot of people do it, myself included. No one has ever complained, how could they?
