Bogus degrees are worse than bogus dan ranks. In many states, they are actively punished as criminal offenses if a person sues it to establish any kind of credibility. There is a big big difference between not being accredited and someone claiming something that is fraudulent. You of all people should respect that. ~f. --__--__-- Message: 2 To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Date: Sat, 24 Nov 2007 23:46:00 -0500 From: sidtkd@aol.com Subject: [The_Dojang] Re: Low cost kukkiwon and high cost peril Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Ray, ? You are quite wrong about there being no peril!? I think you need to ask George about that. In my neck of the woods, some of the "fine" fellows practicing TKD will visit your dojang after hours if you provide kukkiwons at too low a cost. The Kukkiwon itself has moved against some practitioners and threatened to lower their rank.? Once again Ray, you are soooo wrong on this. You're not just silly, as usual, now you're being ridiculous. I have sat in the Kukkiwon itself and discussed this matter. No threats, no concern, no rank lowering. They publish what they charge for each dan level, it is public knowledge. Sid, you have shown time and time again what a total and complete bozo you are. But this one really takes the cake. The school is sponsored by the Lutheran Church and offers "a BA degree in Exercise Sports Science (ESS) with an emphasis in Taekwondo." It goes on to say you can graduate with a 3rd or 4th degree from KKW and it's taught/overseen by a KKW 9th degree. www.cui.edu In regards to honorary degrees, if I did something extraordinary in my lifetime and if Harvard wanted to give me a honorary doctorates, you betcha I'd be there and find a nifty frame to put that up on my wall. I sure wouldn't go by doctor or put phd behind my name. And if anyone introduced me that way I would quickly acknowledge the tribute from Harvard with a honorary degree...but I haven't earned a doctorates so please call me Tom or Thomas. :) To get a honorary degree from a non-academic setting would be like getting a honorary black belt from a non-martial artist. Regardless of how much I respect the person, that's how I'd see it. Personally, I'd rather get a plaque or a special black belt from them. Grand Master Seo (World KidoHae) gave out a few plates and nice certificates of participation. Grand Master Rhee (ITF UK-9-1) was down last weekend and he gave out posters and signed them for people. To me, that's huge. I'll write some on that seminar and send it in for those of you ITF fans.
