The governing body, Malaysian Taekwondo Association, is making an earnest effort to bring all former members back into the fold, having been reinstated and given the right to operate as the guardians of the sport after a two-year hiatus due to its deregistration. With the deregistration drama over, newly-elected MTA president, Raja Taharuddin Raja Nong Chik, is now committed to bringing all former members of MTA back into the family. Testimony to this was the meeting MTA had with Malaysian Taekwondo Club Association at Shah Alam yesterday when the latter was invited to rejoin the national body. "For this reason, MTA has kept one vice chairman position vacant in order for it to be filled by the MTCA nominee. This is done by MTA in good faith," said Raja Taharuddin, a businessman. Raja Taharuddin, who is chairman of Unggul Tangkas Sdn Bhd, came in as a replacement for lawyer Ho Kam Phaw who was ousted after members issued a vote of no-confidence against him and other office-bearers in an extraordinary general conference on Dec 8. Later Raja Taharuddin was installed as president, with Datuk Ling Hee Leong as deputy. Raja Taharuddin said by welcoming back M TA 's old members, it would not only benefit the athletes but also benefit those who are involved in propagating the sports in schools and clubs. "This meeting is in line with the undertaking we had with the Sports Minister, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said to accept all clubs back into MTA. "This is a clear indication of our commitment in fulfilling the pledge we made to the minister in our appeal letter dated June 25, 2007, which is for MTA to accept all clubs back into MTA as associate members and to grant them one vote at MTA meetings, " said Raja Taharuddin. In the informal meeting held in good spirits yesterday, MTCA was represented by its president, Chee Hock Choong. MTA was deregistered as a sports body by Sports Commissioner, Tan Sri Elyas Omar on May 6, 2005, denying exponents the chance of competing internationally. It also caused the sport to suffer at grassroots level as classes were stopped and many athletes were prevented from participating in international tournaments such as the Doha Asian Games in 2006. MTA was reinstated as a sports body by Azalina on July 6, 2007 and since then Elaine Teo and Che Chew Chan had earned the right to compete in the Beijing Olympics after successfully negotiating the qualifying process. Last week the duo bagged the gold medal in their respective categories in the Korat SEA Games. --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Thu, 20 Dec 2007 22:30:31 -0500 From: DVD To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] Question about protocol Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Just curious about a small thing. My son is taking tkd classes in a Korean school. I've noticed that all of the Korean kids bring their belts to the instructor at the beginning of class and the instructor puts the belts on for them. All the American kids have their belts tied upon entering the class. Is there some reason for students to have their instructor put the belt on? --__--__-- Message: 3 From: Dennis Overall To: Subject: RE: [The_Dojang] Question about protocol Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2007 12:20:07 -0500 Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Yea, they don't know how to tie their belt. That is one of our requirements for yellow belt. Everyone needs to at least know how to put on their clothes.
