Seriously and without going into a diatribe, keep to the traditions of the belt, which signifies ones accomplishments, the loyalty ones holds towards the practice of Taekwondo and Hapkido, and leadership by setting an example. As a fledgling practitioner to Martial Arts, I look to my Instructors and Masters for such leadership. Something you probably wouldn't be concerned with in Combat Hapkido. **************Biggest Grammy Award surprises of all time on AOL Music. GM Kim was the first Secretary General and Head Instructor of the Korea Kido Association under GM Choi. Together GMs Choi and Kim authored and published the first books on Hapkido in 1962. Bill Patterson THE DTEE Grandmaster Kim, Jeong-yun, circa 1970. Notice belt knot and location: left side with loop forward. The “dtee” or belt worn at the Hapkido School identifies more than the rank of students. In ancient times throughout Korea and Asia, people tied and wore a sash to simply hold up their pants. The practical knot is one that can be quickly untied and is worn on the left side to be kept out of the way. Grandmaster Hyun adopted the tradition of his teacher, Grandmaster Kim, to tie and wear the dtee for the dobok the same way. By the manner that it is tied and how it is worn, the dtee serves as a symbol of Grandmaster Hyun and identifies all the students that have trained in his schools. The next time you tie your dtee, remember that you are continuing a tradition that originated many years ago. **************Biggest Grammy Award surprises of all time on AOL Music. To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net No offense to anyone but every Korean instructor I've trained with, read about, and known over my 30+ years in Martial Arts has trained a law enforcement group or military personnel. Makes me wonder who trains who :), I guess everyone in the military and civilian law enforcement in Korea are black belts.....having been there I can tell you that is not the case.... Come to think of it, it might be hard to find a MA website where the instructors resume doesn't talk about training the military, police or government agency of some kind, be in a Korean instructor or an American instructor. Just my thought for the day..... ----- Original Message ---- From: Ray To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Sent: Friday, January 25, 2008 3:04:59 PM Subject: [The_Dojang] Korea Kido Assoc ?? > http://www.hapkido.ws/photos.html Interesting that they make the claim, "The Martial Arts School and its Black Belts are certified by the Korea Kido (Hapkido) Association in Seoul and the Korean Governments Ministry of Education." That is mostly true, regardless of the nationality of the instructor.
