He is hard at work in Conn. on the MGM Grand project and totally away from a computer. He has looked around for a good place to get on a Korean Mat but so far nothing that has come up is worthwhile. He still has his sense of sarcastic humor....gee I'm glad I'm not like that!!! LOL.... Anyway he is doing well and sends his regards gents.... Hasnain, 16, captured the women's Olympic flyweight division and Martinez, 24, won the men's Olympic featherweight class. Hasnain went undefeated in three fights, scoring an opening round win over Mara Perscheid (Alexandria, Va.), 6-4, and then defeating Alexis Martinez (Pembroke Pines, Fla.), 7-4. Martinez beat Perscheid in the elimination bracket, 5-4, to set up a rematch with Hasnain in the finals, where Hasnain prevailed, 4-3 to win the division. Hasnain will now move on to the Olympic Trials Finals in Des Moines, Iowa, on April 5 to face top-seeded Charlotte Craig (Murrieta, Calif.). Craig needs just one win to make the Olympic Team while Hasnain will need to defeat Craig twice to secure the berth. Chris Martinez also went undefeated on the day, winning four matches to win the division. He scored a 5-2 win over Richard Lee (Granada Hills, Calif.), a 3-2 victory over James Moontasri (Colorado Springs, Colo.), a 1-0 overtime win over David Bartlett (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and then another win over Bartlett in the finals, 3-2. Martinez will now face Mark Lopez (Sugar Land, Texas) in the Olympic Trials Finals in Des Moines, needing two wins over Lopez to win the Olympic Team spot. In the early 60's when I started in Tae Kwon Do Chung Do Kwan (I was in Son Duk Son's group) we were taught to cross the belt in the back. Also, when I was in Korea (69-70) we tied the belt so that it crossed in the back. I believe that tying the belt in a non-crossed fashion is simply a fashion. To say that tying it in the non-crossed fashion is Korean, to me is simply a way the modern Korean arts are trying to put some distance between the founding arts that are of Japanese and Okinawan origin and making an effort to re-write history. The reason we were told was because it was NOT Japanese. In the 80's and on it wasn't stressed so much.
