The best deal out there seems to be through a student's wholesale account at home depot. Since I'm spending some money on this, I want to avoid some pitfalls you all might have experienced. What size / height do you recommend, height off the floor, backing, support etc.????? If I don't spend the money now, I might end up with 3 or 4 extra copies of Master Burrese's Lock-On DVDs----'cause they are really good.....you should all pick some up! We learned this the hard way. As we were sparring, we broke two of them by stepping back and striking the bottom of the mirror with our heel. So, we start them just above the receptacle line. Also, you really don't need anything above six feet high either. So, unless you are going for a certain look, a four or five foot mirror will work well. We have a window company install them and move them when we move a location. It's safer and they are used to handling big sheets of glass. They use a construction glue to mount them and when we move a location, they take a hot wire behind the mirror and they come right off. I've mentioned tilting them downward a bit, like putting a pencil behind the mirror at the top, but I got shot down every time I've mentioned it. The glass guys were afraid of the gap created and the possibility that an impact in the middle would act like a fulcrum and break the mirror. So, I was thinking of prepping the wall to suit the tilt, but it never seemed practical given the time frame needed to get the doors back open and the fact that if you leave the building, you leave a tilted wall behind. The funny thing is we have video evidence on this one. With the possibility of them being run into, I'd strongly suggest you mastic them to the wall. If it's sheetrock, or not your building, put real thin (aka real cheap) 1/4" paneling/wood on the wall and then secure the mirrors to the boards. Using common sheetrock screws, we screwed the boards to the wall and then mastic the mirrors to the boards. That way, if/when you move, the mirrors come off without destorying the sheetrock. Unscrew the boards and fill the small holes. Done. :) Sincerely, Thomas Gordon Master's Seminars on April 18-20, 2008 www.gordonmartialarts.com/new/2008-0420 --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang Subscribe or Unsubscribe: http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/the_dojang Copyright 1994-2008: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
