We did everything from the little warriors to mutant ninja turtles classes at different YMCA's and Recreation centers with in usually the first 3 weeks they had learned enough to know what Cha Ryut, Kyung Yet, The Stances Chun Kul Cha Se, Hugul Cha Se and Kee Ma Cha Se were and by the time of the end of the scheduled classes were done and test time came about 10 or 12 weeks 90% of them could do the test in mostly Korean or in Martial Arts Language since a few people say these words aren't Korean. but needless to say if I saw one of my instructors or assistant Instructors snapping their fingers to make students respond. It would not be a pretty sight for that instructor after class was over. That kind of teaching falls back on the instructor and on the master as well. if you can't use the Korean you could at use English instructions. Snapping fingers to me would be the same as whistling and saying here boy. I'm not sure about an instructor doing that though. Seems kind of odd. There are certainly times when I'm on the phone and want my kids to shaddap, or want my wife's attention and I snap. In my Firecrackers class (ages 4/5), we have a hand signal that they respond to by kneeling down, hands on knees, and show calm slow quiet breathing. I use the stillness drill hand sign for my own kids, and I know parents who use it at home too...its a great tool to get them quick quiet. I even use it when they start throwing a tantrum---it is a conditioned response pattern that works for me. My kids and adult classes all learn to use hand signs to alert loved ones of danger or other situations. My wife and I have probably a dozen we use regularly. Its great when we want to get out of a boring conversation, leave a social function or alert each other to a possible threat without saying "Hey honey, look at that crack-head, lets move away from them so we don't get jacked" or "Hey dear, you wanna leave this really boring shindig that your mother is hosting?" My STORM leadership team also responds to discreet hand signs during class. If I want them to embellish a bit during a demo of a technique, or resist a bit harder when they are working with another student, or let me know I should leave the mat due to a booger issue...we have hand signals. ....but snapping, hmmm....that should be used only in Pulp Fiction circumstances... He must have a heck of a finger snap for everyone to que on that....
