Capener (located here) http://www.martialartsresource.com/anonftp/pub/the_dojang/digests/spirit.html the following spelling errors were found: Chapter 2, 2nd paragraph: archeolgical should be archaeological Chapter 2, 2nd paragraph: stores should be stories Chapter 2, 8th paragraph: customer should be customs Chapter 3, 1st and 2nd paragraph: Chongdogwan (written twice) should be Chungdokwan Chapter 3, 11th paragraph: 19966 should be 1966] Although this is only a portion of the whole article, from what I read here, this is a much more enlightened understanding of the history and development of Taekwondo through centuries of transitions than Capener's 1995 essay. His earlier research was clearly a biased and slanted piece of work based on a limited understanding of the true nature of Taekwondo and the path it took to become what it is today. Books and historical dates don't always give the whole story. Often times you have to undertand the culture of the people, and the true nature of the subject of which you are trying to trace its history. You can't accurately find traces of Taekwondo in history if you don't fully know what Taekwondo is, and know what to look for. Respectfully, Chief Master D.J. I am proud to inform you that we had a very successful "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 International Taekwondo Invitational Tournament last month. I would also like to take this opportunity to give my appreciation to each of you for your support for successful WTF World and Continental Olympic taekwondo qualification tournaments over the last several months. Mainly thanks to your strong leadership and cooperation, as well as the concerted efforts of the international referees, we brought a more orderly environment to the taekewondo competitions, in which athletes felt that they had been judged fairly and equally. As a result, there were only two protests at the World and five Continental Olympic qualification tournaments. The Beijing test event was significant in that we showed the whole world that we were able to achieve fairness in our competition. We have together achieved our goal of no protest at the competition. If we successfully carry this spirit of fairness through the upcoming 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, we will convince the world how wonderful taekwondo is for the mankind. Once again, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to each of you for your continued support and dedication to the betterment of taekwondo and the WTF. I wish you the best on your taekwondo activities. Sincerely yours, Jin Suk Yang Secretary General --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Tue, 18 Mar 2008 08:17:29 -0800 From: dan scholten To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: [The_Dojang] Master Dan Alaska Hospitality Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net There is a tradition In Alaska to treat visitors very well. You always share your home, food and time with people visiting from the outside. This last week we had a visiting black belt from the East Coast. She is a traveling blues singer but also a great outdoors enthusiast and teacher of Women's Self Defense. She originally came for the Miner's and Musher's Ball but also to see the Iditarod Dog race that finishes here in Nome Alaska. She enjoyed all of that and more, including snowmachineing to an Eskimo Village to watch the racers and seeing over 80 teams finish in Nome. She was met by enthusiastic and friendly students here I made a special feast of King Crab all you can eat at my home for her and others before she left and also gave her a special Ivory carving to attach to her jacket. If she returns in the summer I promised her some very good hiking opportunities, extrodinary fishing and gold prospecting which is every where here just pick up a pan on the beach or use a slues box. This spirit of good hospitality and sharing we have here is what I feel is forming for our new national Tae Kwon Do organization with upcoming State and World Hanmadang. For the first time since 2000 we will be taking out largest group from Nome to the Alaska State Hanmadang. At a cost of $600 per student plane fare it takes something special for us to expend that kind of money. I am excited about the Divisions and regulations now published on the both tournaments. I hope I will see many of you there. I have another traveling black belt this week for two days but our schedules are very busy but we will be able to have King Crab for lunch at my home.
