I have to be honest, I thought something sure looked strang, but didn't think about it until she said something. I had only seen her site and pics on her site until a few days ago when I got an email stating that she had her budo ryu videos online. When I watched them, I just have this feeling that she may be a he because of the way s/he moves. (Women and men move differently) But all in all that's none of my business. I can say that I did like a couple techniques on the video clips. What I'd like to see though are reactions to unrehearsed moves- sparring. He said it was about 3 and a half foot long!!! How crazy is that??? Now that is improvising, and taking care of the problem!! We had a call from a trucking terminal in town that borders a State park and one of only 3 dens of rattlesnakes left in Mass. A trucker went out to PM his truck and heard the tell tale sound of a rattlesnake. Said never seen one before but instantly knew what it was. It was one of the first cool days in the fall. The truckers wanted us to shoot it. I was on motorcycle duty so I had tall leather boots on and went over to check it out. The other officer already beat feet out of there. It was chunky looking thing a brighter yellow version with triangular head and was all laid out. It didn't give much of a rattle til I teased him, and yes you can run fast in motorcycle boots. The truck drivers all stated how us motor cops are all nuts. I did shoo the sanke back into the woods, all 5 1/2 or 6 feet of him. rattle will make you pucker.. **************Planning your summer road trip? Check out AOL Travel Guides. I had a guy in here a while ago and allowed him to do a class. He is a 23 year old BB in Changhun TKD and was talking a bit of smack about how good he was. We were doing sparring w/takedowns and submissions that day. I was not prepared for how 'fish out of water' he was. His sparring was ok, but he did extreme non-contact and did not handle getting owned by yellow belts well. I sincerely thought I would never see him again, but got an email about an hour after class. I did a starter lesson with him last week and he brought his dad with him. He had no idea how to fall, yet told me that they have done Aikido and Judo stuff. No idea what an instep round kick was, yet it is in the Choi, Hong Hi book that he said they followed to a 'T'. No idea what a jab, cross, hook or upper cut were...and the moves were foreign---not just the names of the technique. No foot sweeps, reaps or anything close...so much for aiki and judo...and stuff in the Choi book. Everything I did in my starter lesson, that I do for everyone BTW, he did not know how to do...except for the high blocks. I have several former students from that dojang in my school. Adults, kids, and parents. I know several area schools have former students from that dojang in their schools as well. I have dismissed much of what these folks have told me as possible attempts to make the guy look bad, but what I'm hearing sure seems to be true. This 'master' seems to be filling his students with such nonsense. The students are told they are doing Yudo/Aikido, and yes, HKD. They are told they are learning ITF...and are certified ITF, but this guy had no idea which ITF they were under...just the original from Gen.Choi. The 'master' has only a couple of years of training on me...so at least 27 years of training, and he went from 3rd Dan to Grand Master pretty darn quick. Anyway, after the lesson, he expressed that what we were doing here was simply too much for him and that he didn't want to learn all that other stuff. His dad expressed that I offered so much to my students in the way of techniques and SERVICES that they could not possibly handle it. I had to stifle a laugh. I countered by having my 4 year old do the exact 'technique stuff' on one of my smaller STORM members in front of them. They were shocked. Money was not an issued...their current dojang costs more per month than mine. I thanked them for coming in and went about preparing for class. All I could do was shake my head and shrug. Thanks to all of you for sharing your experiences on how to make our arts, profession and schools better. Thanks to Ray for facilitating these friendly discussions. Thank you all for giving me enough ideas for 'services' to immensely please my customers to keep them coming back for years...and completely freak out those prospects that will hopefully realize they've been getting stroked for years. You can still tell because men do things a certain way. You ever look at people while driving/riding somewhere? when their backs are to you and you're approaching them from a distance see if you can tell if they are man or woman before you get close enough to see fine details. I do it all the time and what I notice is that men and women move differently. Jye Beungood8@aol.com wrote: Adams apple check? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The ad-hoc Sanction Committee, headed by Egypt's Gen. Ahmed Fouly, dealt with two separate disciplinary cases involving a WTF vice president and a WTF staff. The Sanction Committee decided to resume the meeting on April 9 at the Sheraton Golf Parco de' Medici Hotel to produce its final meeting results. The Sanction Committee chairman is expected to deliver the meeting final results to WTF President Chungwon Choue via email, and hand the envelop containing the meeting results to a WTF staff on the scene. The WTF will announce the results shortly. The 3rd Sanction Committee meeting came about one month after the 2nd Sanction Committee meeting on March 3, 2008 in Seoul, Korea. The WTF held its 1st Sanction Committee meeting on Feb. 29, 2008 in Beijing, China. On March 7, the WTF announced the termination of the employment of two of its staff members, in accordance with the decisions of the WTF's Sanction Committee. SOme things I thought of while reading this post.... I feel a good martial artist is like a good mechanic, they don't talk about how good they are, they'd rather show you their work. You can tell if someone really knows how to do something by the way they move or handle something. For instance, my father and I used to DJ back in the day and we met a guy who said he DJed. When the guy first touched my father's turntables my father knew he didn't know what the heck he was doing. I learned then that when you know how to do something, you handle it in a certain way, i guess of how you can tell a ballerina when you see one. What about the spectators??? Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net I just watched the you tube video of the Nia verses Lopez and I am totally discussed with the whole fight, rather what fight????????? The center ref should have stopped them in the first round first minute and said fight or warning then warnings and then deduction points to the point of disqualification!!!!!!!!!! What the hell is wrong with all of you!!!!!!!. If they were testing for their 1st Dan they would fail the test because they were refusing to fight. This is why nobody wants to watch TKD sparring any more. It is boring, weak. The last Olympics it was embarrassing listening to an announcer trying to make it sound exciting just to give people something to listen to. This fight would have been even worse. Oh!!! She is bouncing skillfully Oh!!! She is jiggling her head Oh!!! What was that did you see it, no I didn't. Did they even break a sweat in this what ever it was. This would not even qualify as TKD aerobics??? Talk about the bigger issue that the fighting has been watered down to such an extent that people only care about winning by one point instead if fighting with honor to try to dominate and knock out your opponent screw the points. Take a hit and hit them harder till they can't continue or bow out. This is why USAT threw out all previous coaching and refereeing certifications? claiming that they were going re establish proper quality to the Art of TKD???? Not to mention charging a shit load of money. 12 years ago I sent a young Eskimo girl to the OTC and she blew people out to the ring some 50 pounds heavier. We hosted nationals and the OTC sent their entire Olympic team. After the tournament, the masters made the team line up in the bleachers all proud and said ok everyone who took gold hold up their hands-none Everyone who won silver hold up your hands-none then shaking their heads anyone get bronze-none they threw up their hands and walked away in disgust. For all the bluster in fast action foot work and sounds I had never hear?? They could not penetrate against good honest hard full contact fighting. Traditional TKD fighting was never meant to be a point only fight. USAT has only worsened this to an embarrassing event and gives no value to older more experienced people in fact they seem to be trying to shut them out implying they have no value. The WTF needs to step in and change the whole direction of sparring for adults not children and get back to basics including the use of hands. This needs to happen at a grass roots level starting with instructors. It's such a no brainier just knock them down or out you don't need points. That fight should be an embarrassment to TKD in general; yes it looks like biased judging but so what, what a pathetic fight. Id rather watch Thursday night Fights at home where anyone with or with out beer can climb in the ring. It may lack style but it sure has heart. Come on, am I the only one to see this? My Grand Master said five years ago they should just call it Kwon Do because they don't use their hand any more?? Pathetic. --__--__-- Message: 13 From: Ray To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Subject: Re: [The_Dojang] Master Dan Nia Robbed??? What about the spectators???
