Felt like I was back in the fold while reading :). On the Roma clips, it almost looks like point sparring instead of continuous, the way they stop their attacks, even turning their backs while celebrating, after they feel they gained a point. Dan had a great point, too, on the way things have been with Olympic Sport TKD. There's so much negative match management going on that its sickening. The fault, however, as he pointed out, lies with those who've taught the athletes that this type of strategy is OK. Then, as refs, its up to us to not let the athletes and their coaches get away with it. When the governing body allows it to continue, where does that leave us? At the least, back to our dojangs to make sure WE teach correct technique, positive match management, and just refereeing. I don't care if my students lose every single match they enter if the other guy is gaining points with negative match management. In my estimation, that's akin to cheating. If you're gonna have a sporting competition where there are rules/ethics, then stick to the rules/ethics. Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Hello Everyone, Just read the article below. There is a statement that reads "the youngest at age 6, the eldest at 41". So my question is... was this child between the ages of 3 to 4 yrs old when he or she started? I believe we have had this subject before but it was about a reasonable age to be elegible to test for black belt. I'm just curious. Any comments?
