Hong Joon-Pyo, the floor leader of the ruling and conservative Grand National Party (GNP) was elected as president of Korea Taekwondo Association (KTA) in a KTA general meeting on June 11, 2008. Hong Joon-Pyo, the floor leader of the Grand National Party-Hannara, was elected as the 24th president of Korea Taekwondo Association (KTA) on June 11, 2008 during the KTA general assembly held at Seoul Olympic Parktel in Bangi-dong, Seoul. Cho Young-Ki, president of Joennam Taekwondo Association, resigned the day before the election supporting Hong in public, so the election processed with only two candidates. Hong earned 16 votes among total of 24 votes and won the election over president of Busan Taekwondo Association, Kim Sung-Tae who earned eight votes. The newly elected KTA President Hong will be at the helm of KTA for four years and seven months until January of 2013 including seven months remainder of former KTA President Kim Jung-Kil's term. Hong said that he was frustrated with the stagnation of Taekwondo due to some past presidents' absurdity and decided to run for the president position in order to support and spread Taekwondo world widely as the national sport, according to Yonhap news. "I promise that I will make an entry to extend Taekwondo abroad for young Taekwondo masters," Hong said. Beside the overseas expansion of Taekwondo, Hong also presented election pledges such as fair and fun Taekwondo, revitalization of Taekwondo and maintenance of Taekwondo as an official sport in Olympics. When Hong came forward as a candidate of KTA president, he was blamed for his decision and was told to give up his candidacy from Kim Hyun, spokesperson for United Democratic Party on June 5, 2008, according to Newsis News Agency. "It is unbelievable that the floor leader of GNP Hong is running for KTA president position just to fulfill his ambition despite the fact that the approval rating for GNP has plummeted to 10% range only 100 days after President Lee Myung-Bak's inauguration," Kim said. "I hope that Hong would focus more on reflecting public opinion." Some people affiliated with KTA also voiced up that they should not let any politicians lead KTA but let someone who has a pure spirit of Taekwondo without any political goals to steer KTA in the right direction. KTA staff members who approve of Hong as KTA president, however, said that powerful politician in KTA president position will greatly support for the development of Taekwondo. "I will be fully dedicated to KTA only as a purely spirited man in Taekwondo and I promise to serve KTA not for my means but only for its fixed goals," Hong said. KTA was established in 1961 to promote Taekwondo as Korea's national sport and martial art of self-defense. KTA focuses on raising nation's cultural level through bringing up the best Taekwondo players by guiding all the amateur Taekwondo associations. --__--__-- Message: 2 From: Ray To: The_Dojang Date: Tue, 17 Jun 2008 06:44:15 -0700 Subject: [The_Dojang] Hapkido Director Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Timothy Lajcik is active in Hollywood Nicole Minieri Palo Alto Daily News Having left his mark as a three-time Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran, Timothy M. Lajcik, known as "the Bohemian," is now busy branding his name in Hollywood as both an actor and stuntman. Lajcik, a longtime Redwood City resident, was on location last winter in San Francisco filming "Hand-to-Hand," an action-packed martial arts film directed by renowned hapkido master Jino Kang. "Hand-to-Hand," which is scheduled to be released nationwide on the big screen this summer, is Lajcik's most significant role to date. "In this movie I play a hit man," Lajcik said in a recent interview. "It was challenging because the film required a lot more dialogue than other roles that I have had." Although "Hand-to-Hand" was filmed with a relatively low budget, it still attracted a notable cast that included Kang in the starring role alongside Bill Duff from the History Channel's "Human Weapon." Lajcik landed his big break into the film business during his Ultimate Fighting Championship career in 2004, after being discovered at a New Jersey UFC Tournament while cornering another UFC fighter. Douglas Crosby, a prominent stunt coordinator on the East Coast, approached Lajcik with an offer after closely observing how he interacted with his fans. "He saw something in me I certainly didn't see in myself," said Lajcik. Once a member of the Screen Actors Guild, Lajcik made his debut in a prison riot scene for the short-lived television series "The Jury," in which he played a police officer. "My job was to lift another actor over my head and throw him," Lajcik said. "After that, I just started to get a fair amount of football and fighting-related stunts." Lajcik went on to feature and perform stunts in a variety of television shows such as "The Naked Brothers," and in multiple episodes of "Law and Order: Criminal Intent." After achieving a stream of successes in television, Lajcik transitioned into major motion pictures. His filmography has lengthened considerably in the past two years due to the series of back-to-back stunts performed in five feature films. In "Retaliation," "Little Children," "Invincible," "Beer League," and "Freedomland," Lajcik rubbed shoulders with star-studded, A-list casts. In addition to performing stunts, Lajcik was able to get smaller roles in some of those films; however, "Retaliation" was the first film where Lajcik was exclusively hired as an actor, as opposed to a stunt performer. But Lajcik's exposure hasn't been limited to television and film. His multiple defeats in the famed octagon cage at the Hard Rock CafÄ in Las Vegas served as a window of opportunity into UFC compilation videotapes, where some of his most intense, hard-hitting fighting moments have been highlighted. And his unorthodox combative ways bused him straight into the lucrative industry of video games, where his image has been repeatedly mimicked. "I was hired to body-double for some of the boxing champions featured in 'Knockout Kings 2000.' Then the UFC used my name and likeness for one of the fighters in the 'UFC Tapeout' video game," explained Lajcik. As Lajcik continues his Hollywood quest, he also remains a sought-out instructor on the Peninsula because of his reputation as a powerful Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter. "I simply wanted to learn boxing, from the best," says personal trainer Sean Spencer, who trained under Lajcik for several years. "Pound for pound, he is the strongest fighter I have ever seen. It just doesn't get any better than Tim." In July, Lajcik will go on location in Chicago, where he will work in conjunction with director Jino Kang on two feature films. Lajcik will first play a serial killer in an action thriller, then play the friend of the lead character in a comedy. Also in the works for Lajcik this summer is a possible Ultimate Fighting Champion bout. Although negotiations are in the making, a contract still hasn't yet been reached. Lajcik also is a published writer and poet. His poems and martial arts articles have respectively been featured in Full Contact Fighter and the Journal of Asian Martial Arts. When asked what he would like to do in the future, Lajcik replied, "I'd like to write a decent screenplay at some point." Given his track record, Lajcik just might pull off a --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang Subscribe or Unsubscribe: http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/the_dojang Copyright 1994-2008: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
