The parents want to continue his training, and asked for some help finding a school. He has trained for a year and a half, and they are looking for a traditional TKD school with a young children's program. Any names, phone numbers, and/or web links would be appreciated. The seminar participants also resolved to “respect and accept the judgment and decisions of the refereeing and technical officials in all taekwondo competitions.” All the participants, about 100 from about 50 countries, unanimously adopted an Olympic coach resolution, which read, “I, as a coach of a participating national taekwondo team in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, am fully determined to respect fair play for the success of taekwondo competition, and hereby abide by the following resolutions.” It read, “I will respect and treat every athlete, coach and official equally in accordance with the Olympic Charter and the Rules and Regulations of the World Taekwondo Federation, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, and religious beliefs.” “I will be a positive role model for my athletes and promote fair play, sportsmanship and courtesy at all times.” “I will ensure the safety of all athletes. I will not tolerate shameful or undesirable acts from my athletes. I will accept an sanction imposed on me and my national taekwondo association by the World Taekwondo Federation should I violate any provision within the WTF Rules and Regulations,” the resolution concluded. As part of its efforts to ensure the fairest refereeing and judging at taekwondo competitions, especially the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games, the WTF has devoted over the last four years most of its time and energy to improving its refereeing and judging. The ongoing Olympic Coach Seminar, the first of its kind in WTF history, continues until June 18. The WTF organizes a WTF Referee Refresher Course for the Beijing Olympic Games on July 13-19. --__--__-- Message: 5 From: Ray To: The_Dojang Date: Wed, 18 Jun 2008 15:29:09 -0700 Subject: [The_Dojang] Now it is 2700 years old Reply-To: the_dojang@martialartsresource.net Kickin' it in Marquette Upper Michigan Martial arts academy gives students physical and mental knowledge. Heather Sawaski June 18 MARQUETTE -- Soo Bahk Do is the original martial art of Korea-- starting about 2,700 years ago. It combines traditional self-defense techniques with Korean philosophy. Students have been learning the moves in Marquette for the past 16 years, but in February, the Soo Bahk Do Academy underwent an ownership change. Carl Vonck took over the Marquette Soo Bahk Do Academy earlier this year. Formerly the Lake Superior Soo Bahk Do Academy, the Marquette Soo Bahk Do Academy was slated to close earlier this year, but Vonck just couldn't let that happen. "A lot of the students were pretty sad when they thought it was ending," Vonck said. "So I definitely wanted this to continue on, because it's something I've come to love and enjoy for almost 14 years now." Vonck and four other certified instructors teach nearly 50 students at the academy. From sparring to authentic poses and moves, they do it all. "We think of it kind of as a school here," Vonck said. "It's not just punching and kicking. We put a little more behind it, like human relations and improving those with everyone." Another aspect of Soo Bahk Do is its family-orientation. After seeing how much her children enjoyed the class, Carole Tuchinski decided to become a certified instructor. "Both my daughter and son participate," Tuchinski said. "Its been a really wonderful family building element for us. Today, especially, the generations are so separated that it's hard to find activities where parents and children can participate together." --__--__-- _______________________________________________ The_Dojang mailing list The_Dojang@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/the_dojang Subscribe or Unsubscribe: http://the-dojang.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/the_dojang Copyright 1994-2008: Ray Terry and http://MartialArtsResource.com Standard disclaimers apply.
